I tried to get some reaper and ghost pepper plants from my nursery yesterday. They were covered in hundreds of aphids so I couldn't get them.

San marzanos are determinate, meaning they grow to a certain height and then put out fruit (albeit they will put out flowers/fruit in the process as well). Ime you want to trim the bottom after a certain height to give them good airflow, 6-18 inches maybe (it depends what you have planted under them, if just mulch/nothing 6-8 is probably fine).

From there you can basically leave them alone, or apply fertilizer per the recommended rate if you want. After they reach a certain size they will start putting out a lot of fruit. Rosemary grows fairly big and overwinters so probably isn't a good idea, I would think thyme would work well but I have not tried it myself, it also overwinters and I already have more than I need established elsewhere.

I have a lot of other landscaping projects to accomplish in addition to gardening though. I have plum trees and rosebushes that came with the property that need to be pruned extensively or removed. A mostly dead lilac Bush that must be removed. A fire pit to dig. I'm waiting as patiently as I can for spring.
