Possible Panaeolus cyanescens found in Queensland? ID needed
    #25105756 - 04/01/18 01:05 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hi guys,

I was wondering if these were Panaeolus cyanescens?
I found them growing out of cow dung on a humid day.
I'm located on the Gold Coast, Queensland Aus.
They were quite light but have since bruised a dark inky blue.
Currently making a spore print, the smell is a dark earthy smell but not unpleasant.

Thank u in advance!
<3

Yes. P.cyanescens. Better than Easter eggs.

How did they go? I've found this mushroom or an extremely similar one before but dumped it bc I saw no blue bruising, I'm still looking for them here and very interested to know

What you found was probably Panaeolus antillarum.

I did also find this mushroom today.
Definitely not psychoactive but HUGE and beautiful!
I've never seen one like it with the shaggy gills.
I don't suppose anyone can identify it?

Looks like a Macrolepiota sp., maybe M. dolichaula? Or maybe a Chlorophyllum sp.

Any reddish brown discoloration on the stem?

No discolouration that I could see.
They were growing in a horse paddock & they smelled awful like urine

Sorry I can't find any proper description of M. dolichaula, but the following blog describes it as 'pungent':

https://mushroaming.wordpress.com/2014/06/08/macrolepiota-dolichaula/

The closest contender I can find is Chlorophyllum hortense, which apparently stains red brown on cutting or bruising.

Thanks for your research! I really appreciate it.
I do agree that it looks similar.. although I just can't seem to find any examples with that deep beige shaggy gill look.
It's a pretty close match nonetheless.

Do you still have the mushroom? I suggest you take a face on gill shot in good lighting, and also try to cut the
stem lengthwise in half and take pictures of that as well, so we can be fairly sure whether it bruises or not.

I think it's Macrolepiota dolichaula. Quite profilic in QLD currently. Only thing I'd like to see is the top of the cap, but I'm pretty sure.

I didn't actually keep the big white mushroom because it truly smelled terrible so I had to throw it out of the window :crazy2:

I went looking again today and found a bunch of what look like more pans cyan?
I could be wrong!
Here are my finds.. I separated them so the single ones are what I think are active.. and the big pile contains the ones I think are duds. But maybe you guys might spot a goodie in there
Thanks again for all your help. I'll keep hunting!

Seems like you're right here. All blue bruising ones are P. cyanescens. Looking at the pile I don't see any bruising.

If they dont bruise blue like the one in pic #2, they are not actives. The last 2 pics have a mixed collection of non actives from what I can tell.
