You have to be in direct contact with it for more than a few seconds I think.

What are you going to do with it? I used to get it from the ice cream man and used it to blow up soda bottles.

A warm moist surface will conduct heat well, causing the surface of the dry ice to vaporize and creating an insulating layer.

This is what I would do.

Put a little bit (two cups) of water in a 2 liter bottle and throw in a bunch of dry ice chips. Recap. 2 liter bottles can withstand over 100 psi, and will fail catastrophically. Expect a major bang.

One could achieve the same effect using works toilet bowl cleaner and some aluminum foil.

I was just unloading stuff and dry ice was keeping it cool.

Not really. When you make a bomb from dry ice, you don't spray any corrosive/toxic chemicals everywhere.

When I was younger, maybe middle schoolish, me and a few friends were bored and bought the toilet cleaner n foil and went to the elementary school playground where the chicks we were with wanted to swing. We made a two liter one and it was so loud, we ran away on our bikes but we must of come back a few min later because all I remember is the  cops came and said people were reporting a loud boom 3-4 blocks away.  Lol. We had ditched the evidence everything besides the bottle and I think they found the cleaner we chucked over a fence but they couldn’t prove it was us so they left. Nobody is gonna think some middle school boys with innocent girls swinging made a drano bomb.    Fun times.

Exactly. More pain for the enemy. Your bomb would not be as effective :p

Do you know when you have a hot iron and drop water on it, the drop dances over the surface instead of flash vaporizing?

That happened to you. The warmth of your fingersformed a cushion of CO2 gas between you and the dry ice. The moment that effect is overcome you can burn quite badly.

The cryogenic drum at work operates at plus or minus -240F degrees. The other night when I was working the board it was -243. There will be many inches of ice on piping at work when it's 100+ degrees outside. Sometimes I'll see bugs frozen in the ice.

The first time I did this I was about 10 years old and used the wrong ratio of water/dry ice so it was taking a longer to explode. We closed the bottle, set it on the street corner and then ran into the ditch to watch it happen. I lived in Michigan, where you get $.10 for bottle returns, so some guy stopped to pick it up and put it in his truck. It probably scared the shit out of him when it went off, LOL.

We thought it was going to blow up in his hand or something
