Getting back into the psychedelic saddle

My fellow brothers and sisters at the Shroomery,
I've taken a long time off from consuming God's flesh, as I've had many traumatic events these past couple years, and it was not healthy to have to re-live them every time I went down the rabbit hole. Luckily, lately I've really bounced back and have gotten things straightened out enough where I honestly feel that the time is ripe again to expand my consciousness once more.
I've been cultIvating some kick ass Burma species from some spores I've been saving, and plan to once again plummet down the rabbit hole this Friday with my buddy.
My question is this, what are some techniques that you use to clear your mind, prepare, and ultimately allow you to have a more pleasant trip? I'm no noob by any stretch, but my last few trips were very difficult, and I'd like some tips from the more seasoned trippers out there.
Happy vibes my friends!

Music, all day, every day. Meditation. Eat clean, fast. Water water. Clean house. No obligations. Phone off.
That's what I do when I am getting ready to see a movie.

Thanks for the advice man, it means a lot. Is there any meditation techniques you'd recommend me looking up?

Accept whatever comes.
Whatever thoughts or feelings.
Embrace them.
Then you can move through them and past them.

I suppose you're right. Thanks for the advice. I would be ignorant as to think that I can really control the outcome of my trip, much beyond set and setting at least.

If you do start to go to dark places I would just try and focus on breathing, taking deep sloe breathes, just relax, remember it will pass in time...
In the end we have no choice but to accept it...
But i feel like Everytime mushrooms take me to a dark place, I feel much better afterward.
I like to take really high doses and have tripped to the point of bawling my eyes out quite a few times. Feels good. Very therapeutic.

I chant the Rama Taraka Mantra. Seems to calm me.

I'll second the meditation thing. After consuming my mushrooms, I listen to soothing music for 30 mins and then lay down and meditate by closing my eyes and focusing on my breath. Innnnn and ouuuuut, again and again just focus on it. If I have timed it right, the come-up will be happening around me as I meditate. When the come-up feels to have leveled off into the main body of the trip, I either lay down and let it at me, or I do a walking meditation up and down the halls, usually chanting "Om' or some such weirdness.

First and foremost- EXPECT A HARD COMEUP---know that it will suck and WILL get better. Dont let the hard comeup dictate the whole trip
Shower before the trip
Clean house/room
No food for 4-8 hours beforehand
clear the mind through whatever means
make sure you have no distractions
occupy yourself while waiting for the trip to come on
-------------------- Something there is mysteriously formed, Existing before Heaven and Earth, Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging, All-pervading, unfailing, I do not know its name; I call it tao. If forced to give it a name, I call it Great (ta). Being great, it flows out; Flowing out means far-reaching; Being far-reaching, it is said to return. It's just a shot away..

Good stuff. I'm definitely going to be showering and turning the phone off. These are all really great ideas, and I'll be trying them all. I'll be trying the Rama Taraka Mantra. I'm inexperienced to most meditation techniques aside from prayer and breathing exercises.
I like the idea of expecting and embracing the hard come up. It seems that the come up is always the hardest part for me. Any recommendations on how to make the most of the come up, as opposed to just getting through it?
Thanks for all the excellent advice by the way! I'll be posting a trip report for you all after the fact!

I've always viewed the come up as hiking a mountain of repressed thoughts, emotions, and egoic ideas, it's best to see them for what they are and let them go and pass by, spectate and observe but don't attach yourself to them.
The come up is always the test to see the view at the top of the mountain

Can't say that's not easily the best answer to the given question...

This is good. I'll use this metaphor in the future if it's OK.
