I have done this before and had good luck, I had zero contams and as to nutrients getting killed, a one cake casing I made lasted for nearly three months, then I recased it and it is still going so there must not be much in the way of nutrient loss.

It doesnt kill the nutrients. IMO its a good idea if you cant use a PC, but if you can then do coz it makes everything much more straightforward and reliable
