water on spawn
    #25093060 - 03/26/18 10:00 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

I just cased my spawn that was fully colonized in a monotub.  When I removed the foil I noticed water beads covering the spawn.  I actually notice this for most of my tubs.  I usually try to tilt the tub so it pours out.  Collectively it is about 1 to 3 tablespoons of water.  Is this normal? I would have added a picture but you cant really notice the beads from the pictures I took. I was thinking I didn't have my substrate to field capacity, but I wrung it out really good this time and still got the beads. I sometimes notice a little bit of yellow bacteria, but not every time.  Thanks for any input.

beads of moisture are usually a good sign. using tin foil on a substrate is odd for a monotub. the tub has a lid

:whathesaid:

The tin foil is just blocking precious light from the surface.

Clear tubs are the way to go OP.

Mycelium likes pretty bright light throughout all stages of its life.

Really the more light the better as long as it's not drying your substrate or cooking it.

As mentioned above, water beads are good.  All the beads mean is that evaporation is occurring from substrate, collecting on roof fruiting chamber, and rainng down onto substrate below.

Applying a casing after colonization will soak them beads up.  You don't want any pooling though.  If pooling is detected soak it up with a paper towel, or dump it being careful not to damage substrate.  The yellowing is most likely metabolites which are harmless.

Thanks for the input. Very appreciated.  Next time I will try the colonization without the foil and just the lid.

Yo i dont have a Liner and to me it looks like water is pulling midd way on the sides of the sub think the mycel is fully attached the the bin from over watering i only assume so my question is just turn the tub a bit and dump it no probmels??

Correct.  Go slow and be mindful to not accidently dump out substrate.

Omfg I did that for the first time the other day:facepalm3:

I just had to take a few deep breaths and try to learn from it haha.

Now I only do it if it's still totally pressed up and stuck against the FC.
