That's not too far south to find them. They're all through out the bay area. Relatively speaking, the entire bay area is prime climate for woodlovers, and lots of habitats for them out there.

They've been found much farther than the bay area, down towards Monterey and San Luis Obispo areas, even farther south than that down towards the LA area (tho less common down there, they have been found)...And they're found within inland California. I'm not in the bay area at all, I'm almost 100 miles from the coast and I've found several patches in my area.

Have you found any yet? Or seen fresh cyans and allenis?

Once you find some they get easier to spot. Seeing them in person makes identification much easier.

I was into my third season hunting and hadn't found anything. I went to the Fungus fair saw some cyans and allenis on display, went for a walk and found my first alleni that afternoon.

After years of being faked out I picked up that mushroom and knew exactly what it was.

I don't know what city you're in, but the biggest patch I've found is in Hayward.

I mean isn't seeing pictures online enough? I was goin crazy until I figured out what one of The lookalikes was. Now when I see it I can easily dismiss it because it has no white stem. But this is my first time hunting ever, since I'm from down south where nothing happens. My journey here in Bay Area is about to end tho, so I'm starting to head south of San Francisco, and I'm trying to check places I haven't checked. Recently I think I found a Blewit, and I'm such a noob I thought I found a big ass psilocybin growing on the ground! XD

I've read all the tips and everything that's on the board in the stickies. So far all I understand is to look in woodhips in urban areas for psilocybin but I keep feeling like that's so shady to do, man! And I keep seeing pictures of Cubans cyans growing in a patch of grass.

So any tips to a complete newbie who has never hunted for active shrooms let alone any mushroom ever?  Please, I need some advice so I don't keep taking a walk in a forest expecting something to be there. Kinda feels like I'm hunting for the yeti in the desert right now... -_-

1st. Don't look in the forest. You can look in parks and yes they are often in the grass near wood chip beds.

2nd. Don't expect much. Most patches haven't been fruiting for months.

The forest is not the place. It’s also not really the season. Spending hundreds of hrs looking until you find your first actives is often part of the process. Once you find your first it gets much easier. Season in Bay Area gets started with rains in oct/ nov and continues into Jan/ feb. People are still finding a few, but those are anomalies. Perseverance pays off. Keep looking in woodchipped landscaped areas during season and you will eventually spot them - often by accident, when not on an actual “hunt”. I found my first cyans totally by accident 30 yrs ago in my friends yard in Seattle. I had looked at lots of pics and read all the literature and so when I happened to be in their presence, I noticed them. Takes work, but totally worth it. It gets much easier. You’re in the frustrating phase - paying your dues. Success is directly related to amount of effort and perseverance. Having a resource like the shroomery with thousands of pics and first hand accounts is privceless. I started out as a teenager with nothing but an Audubon guide to mushrooms and a fascination with psychedelics.

I've never found actives. I've seen some specimens at the SF fungus fair a few months ago. I'm pretty sure I'll know them when I see them. I just need to get out there and look more. I'll report back if I find anything today

I made a tea with 1.5 grams of cyans and I'm not tripping hard but definitely feeling it. I think I need to up the dosage next time.

This thread isn't really for discussion about dosing/tripping....

but I'll say....If you took 1.5g in a tea and you're not tripping much, "just feeling it"...Either those cyans are rather weak and/or somehow your tea didn't turn out with the full potential of what that 1.5g had to offer. Or our ideas/definitions of "tripping" and "feeling it" are different lol.

Because 1.5g of cyans should be more than plenty for a full on trip, enough to have one "tripping". Even less than a gram of cyans or allenii will have me tripping.

....1.5g in tea usually has me coming up with visuals within 20 minutes. 1.5g will definitely have me in a full on trip, well beyond "just feeling it", within 45 minutes.

Is that a new find or from an old patch? Has it produced already this year?

It's a patch I found a couple months ago. I previously identified it being in Hayward. I was biking around out of San Leandro looking for mushrooms and didn't know what city I was in.

I took some mycelium from this patch and have been growing it and planting it around my area. Needless to say, if these genetics can make a patch or two half as vigorous this in my area I will be stoked!

Yesterday when I picked those a maintenance guy was about 10 feet away from me watching me(they're in an apartment complex). So I picked them rather hastily. I came back later and picked these.

In the meantime I was biking around San Leandro and Oakland hunting. I lucked out with the weather and had a great day. Found some green staining mushrooms that I put in an ID request for and the most putrid patch of stinkhorns I've come across.
