Mushroom ID help, Canberra region
    #25090676 - 03/25/18 10:18 PM (5 years, 10 months ago)

Hi guys apologies for the lack of info for this, I stumbled upon this mushroom walking around Canberra a day after some rain and was wondering if anyone could help identify it. Unfortunately I couldn't take a photo of it in the ground or it's stem - I'm creating a spore print now.

Appears to be a bolete.

If that is blueing on the cap then it is a lurid bolete.

The lurid bolete can be edible when cooked but causes gastric upset when raw.

Its spore print should be Olive Brown

you should cut it in half and see if it turns a vibrant sapphire blue

There are many blue staining boletes that aren't https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suillellus_luridus

Pictures of the entire mushroom including stipe and cross section help immensely when identifying boletes

Very true. I was looking at the underside color and cap color and was debating between Boletus queletii but it doesn't really look like the other bruising bolete mushrooms to me. Suillellus_luridus is more of an orange underside but I have seen very yellow ones. The stipe cannot really be seen well in this image so it was easy to be confused.
