What kind of polypore is this?
    #25086610 - 03/24/18 06:06 AM (6 years, 6 days ago)

Found on the trunk of some dead tree. Quite a few of em growing on there, but they seemed kind of dried out. But I wonder if you could "revive" them by watering (like wood ears do)?

They seemed to have gills instead of pores??

Looks quite like Gloeophyllum abietinum. Not entirely sure though. It usually grows on conifer wood.

Gloeophyllum sepiarium is saprobic on the deadwood of conifers and, occasionally, hardwoods.

Thanks! Yea it does look like it matches with Gloeophyllum sepiarium.

I took one of em home and put it on wet cardboard (with the CD case tek), just to see what would happen. Suprisingly, it wasn't dead and I noticed some mycelium growing from the mushroom already. Cool! Perhaps I can try to let it grow on some nearby old tree log.
