INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (KDKA) — Medics in Indianapolis, Ind., say that a drug laced with bug spray causes a “zombie”-like reaction, and they’re seeing more and more overdoses.

CBS affiliate WTTV reports that the drug is called KD. A heavy-duty bug spray, like Raid, is combined with either marijuana, tobacco or spice.

After the user smokes it, Indianapolis Fire Department Captain Chris Major says the user becomes “slow and lethargic,” drools and has a loss of function.

“We find them with their clothes off, eating the grass, pulling dirt out of the ground and trying to put it in their mouth,” Major told WTTV.

Emergency responders have had almost a dozen overdose calls in one day, sometimes treating the same person multiple times a day.

Authorities are trying to find the source of the drug.

Do they know the exact chemical? I remember when I was younger people would say some weed has bug spray on it. But that never made sense unless the plant was infested with bugs. I also remeber people would wrap their weed in dryer sheets because they thought it made it more potent. When they told me that I was like I'm not buying weed from you.

Since I've been here over the years...

....At least a couple times a year I see news articles or threads about some "bug spray drug" .

It's either articles like this talking about some random drug that's made with bug spray (this literally sounds like random drugs mixed with random plant material and sprayed with a random bug killer). Or someone on the shroomery (usually a new member) making a thread wanting to know how to get high off bug spray or how to make drugs from bug spray. Pretty sure someone even tried to post a "tek" about how to make a drug from bug spray that involved merely spraying bug spray over exposed wires with an electric current running through them (yea  )...and then some crystalline meth-like drug would form on the wires and that's what's smoked (not at all possible...someone was obviously t'wacked outta their gourd thinking this stuff up). I don't know who thinks this stuff up.

I'm really curious, though, when and how this whole "bug spray" drug thing started...?....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organophosphate_poisoning
A striking example of OPIDN [organophosphate induced delayed neuopathy] occurred during the 1930s Prohibition Era when thousands of men in the American South and Midwest developed arm and leg weakness and pain after drinking a "medicinal" alcohol substitute. The drink, called "Ginger Jake," contained an adulterated Jamaican ginger extract containing tri-ortho-cresyl phosphate (TOCP) which resulted in partially reversible neurologic damage. The damage resulted in the limping "Jake Leg" or "Jake Walk" which were terms frequently used in the blues music of the period...

(How the bug walks, when it is sprayed.)

Quote:

The symptoms of organophosphate poisoning include muscle weakness, fatigue, muscle cramps, fasciculation, and paralysis. Other symptoms include hypertension, and hypoglycemia.
Overstimulation of  :cig: nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the central nervous system, due to accumulation of ACh, results in anxiety, headache, convulsions, ataxia, depression of respiration and circulation, tremor, general weakness, and potentially coma. When there is expression of  :regularshroom: muscarinic overstimulation due to excess acetylcholine at :regularshroom:muscarinic acetylcholine receptors symptoms of visual disturbances, tightness in chest, wheezing due to bronchoconstriction, increased bronchial secretions, increased salivation, lacrimation, sweating, peristalsis, and urination can occur.

The effects of organophosphate poisoning on muscarinic receptors are recalled using the mnemonic SLUDGEM (salivation, lacrimation, urination, defecation, gastrointestinal motility, emesis, miosis).

An additional mnemonic is MUDDLES: miosis, urination, diarrhea, diaphoresis, lacrimation, excitation, and salivation.

:drphil: :cuteshit:When in doubt, just remember: SLUDGEM AND MUDDLES

Recalling the thread, in which one formulation of Roundup (weedspray) was related to Agent Orange, organophosphates (bug spray) are related to nerve agents, blamed for Gulf War Syndrome:

Well no to make meth but to crystalize the raid and make something that looks like meth. Ive heard of people around here doing it and selling it as meth though from some tweakers I know. Could just be storys though considering they also all think that meth is grown by a fungus in an icechest that people bury underground for a month.
I swear every tweaker in oklahoma says that these are both real things. According to them meth isnt even around anymore and all the crystals we get are now the new drug known only as "ice" which is a byproduct of fungus somehow causing a chemical reaction.

Yeah, something ain't right here. Either the authorities are interpreting slang literally, or this is some joke they aren't getting, or the whole thing is totally made up. Organophosphates would make the 'user' very sick, way before the neurological effects described therein. And no one would ingest them twice.

I really think this is just whatever is found in spice today, after they banned all the known compounds and manufacturers have turned to some real shadym extremely powerful actives. The symptoms don't disagree with that(except the eating grass part, if true I imagine this was one person with other mental disorders and it is being projected onto everyone). And the 'bug spray' part was made up by users to describe the awful effects/smell they associate with said products.

Its just a joke among marijuana users to make fun of people who are stupid enough to smoke spice. But the authorities are even more stupid to interpret it literally and except it as truth, this is the type of person we've put on the front lines in the drug war.

Sounds like the authorities are getting pranked again just like the JENKEM stories a few years back... Maybe a few kids got stupid and huffed  bug spray, itll never be treated as a drug by anyone other than the politicians who want more enforcement over our lives

Anarcho-tyranny is a concept used in critiquing modern, social democracy. Samuel Francis argued that the problems of managerial states extend to the issue of crime and justice. In 1992, he introduced the word, anarcho-tyranny, and he once defined it, this way. We refuse to control real criminals. That's the anarchy. So, we control the innocent. That's the tyranny.

You can't realistically track down the source of bug-spray-laced dope (or of jenkem) without harassing all the normals, who use normal, everyday things, for the normal reasons.

The effects are less predictable, if the manufacturer has eaten Korean or Mexican food. :nono:

For those interested, in the latest bug spray smoking slang...

"kd, or Katie, or Zombie."

Preppers, praetors, and Boomer champagne socialists are training for a zombie apocalypse. No, really.

Smoking A Bug Spray Laced Street Drug Transforms Users Into Zombies
http://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/smoking-a-bug-spray-laced-street-drug-transforms-users-into-zombies_03272018#comment-3797903

One of the newest and deadliest drugs is also one of the cheapest.  Dubbed “KD” or “Katie” or “Zombie”, the drug turns users into strange crazed zombies reminiscent of the effect of the bath salts drug.

This drug may contain different ingredients, but the common denominator is always bug spray.  According to Natural News, the users take marijuana, banana leaves, tobacco, or spice and lace it with a bug spray, most often Raid. This concoction is then smoked, giving users a 45-minute high that leaves them virtually unconscious and crazed zombies.

While some people choose to make their own drugs, other users simply buy it for around $20 a bag on the black market. Irrespective of where they get it, however, it is incredibly addictive and can be absolutely lethal. In recent weeks, the use of bug spray enhanced drugs has risen dramatically. Since the cost of this drug is so low, expectations that its popularity will fizzle out are also low.

Indianapolis medics have had to deal with around a dozen KD overdoses each day, with some people overdosing repeatedly on the same day. Even for those users who don’t actually overdose on KD, its effects are incredibly disturbing and cause what has been described by authorities as “zombie-like” reactions.  Onlookers have described users saying they become “slow and lethargic,” drool and lose all motor function or the ability to communicate with others.

In short, while in the throes of a high, KD users become totally unaware of and utterly unable to control their actions. “We find them with their clothes off, eating the grass, pulling dirt out of the ground and trying to put it in their mouth,” Fire Department Captain Chris Major told CBS-affiliate WTTV. “You look at what it does to a bug,” firefighter Scott Lebherz told the Indy Star, “and then you got to think what it’s doing to your brain, and your body and everything else.”

Inquisitr reported that these sprays generally contain piperonyl butoxide, permethrin, cypermethrin, and imiprothrin, among others – all of which are incredibly harmful chemicals to the human body. And, when mixed with other ingredients and smoked, this cocktail becomes even more toxic.

Health officials have already warned that smoking this particular “zombie” bug spray laced drug carries an “extreme risk of fatality,” but users become addicted to it so quickly that very few have heeded any of the warnings. One fire department reported that the drug is so fast-acting that many overdose victims are found writhing like a zombie with the drug still in their hands.

Although this may seem obvious to many, smoking bug spray is extremely dangerous, harmful to your health, and could be lethal.

Above story suggests a new kind of bug spray, to use --
Quote:

The use of pyrethrins and pyrethroids has increased during the past decade with the declining use of organophosphate pesticides, which are more acutely toxic to birds and mammals than the pyrethroids.

The ones with 'thrin' on the end --
Quote:

permethrin, cypermethrin, and imiprothrin

Quote:

Pyrethrins are botanical insecticides derived from chrysanthemum flowers most commonly found in Australia and Africa. They work by altering nerve function, which causes paralysis in target insect pests, eventually resulting in death.
