"I have had some experiences with love, or think I have, anyway, although the ones I have liked best could easily be described as "common decency." I treated somebody well for a little while, or maybe even for a tremendously long time, and that person treated me well in turn. Love need not have had anything to do with it. Also: I cannot distinguish between the love I have for people and the love I have for dogs.
Love is where you find it. I think it is foolish to go looking for it, and I think it can often be poisonous. I wish that people who are conventionally supposed to love each other would say to each other, when they fight, "Please -- a little less love, and a little more common decency." --Kurt Vonnegut

It is no use to complain of low aims; for, whatever people may say, they rule the world. Schopenhauer.
I think he is interpreting a quote by Goethe - Uber's Niedertrachtige Niemand sich beklage: Denn es ist das Machtige Was man dir auch sage.

Whether we choose to or not, we are always creating. Be it a conversation, a moment, a thought, art or music.

I kind of just blew my own mind in the other thread:

Lizwiz, you should read the bhagavad gita, it focusses on that quite a bit. Its ghandi's favorite book

Not too familiar with him, apart from a few videos/podcasts I've seen. Career professors don't often make a habit of discussing their illegal plant use.
Despite whether he's done them or not, he clearly has a deep appreciation for them.

I saw a video where he admitted to trying them. A few months ago I was just going through a bunch of YouTube vids of him talking about random stuff; seems like a pretty interesting guy. Kinda has a compassionate yet no-bullshit approach to life.
I went with my mom to a bookstore over the weekend cuz she wanted me to get something interesting to read since I'm on vacation this week. I didn't see much in the science section that interested me, so I checked out the philosophy section, and was considering getting something like Plato, Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, James, etc (although some of that stuff goes over my head at times, lol) but I figured I'm nihilistic enough and don't want to scare her Christian sensibilities even more, so I bought the Tao Te Ching. Might have to ease my way into some of that other stuff, but in the meantime I think this should be a pretty interesting read I'll post some hidden nuggets here if anything strikes me
