Giant Yosemite Mushroom!
    #25062868 - 03/14/18 12:48 PM (5 years, 11 months ago)

I was hiking in Yosemite through the snow and came to a forested area with discombobulated cabin areas dispersed every so often. The ground was very soft with wood and foliage covering the ground. It  was growing near a rushing river, about 15 feet away. It grew in a cluster and the biggest mushroom was almost a foot in diameter! I only got a top view on picture, but I distinclty remember well spaced apart white gills and a short stem that you could only see if you looked under the cap. There was one broken up about 10 more feet away from it, and it looked to be about an inch or more thick. TBH the thing looks like a yellow pancake. I'm curious as to what this subject is l.http://

Beautiful specimens! Wish we could get some upskirt shots of the gills but those are big! I envy those whove had the chance to go to Yosimite. I've heard so much about it through my gf that now I have to make time to go!

Does that grow with snowmelt?

http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Clitocybe_albirhiza.html does.

They were one of the few mushrooms I saw during freezing conditions in Yosemite a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure the snowmelt mushrooms are fruiting yet...

I'm not 100% sure on the ID, but I want to cover 'em in maple syrup and butter for sure

The temps have been all over the place the last few weeks, with lots of precipitation interrupted by warm sunny days. I think we got similar mushrooms (though smaller) a week or two ago here (we're near Yosemite at 3,000ft). If I find anything on my post-rain walk today I'll post for comparison.
