Cobweb in jars, can it be stopped?
    #25070841 - 03/17/18 12:27 PM (6 years, 12 days ago)

So cobweb made its way into one or more of my brfs
Inoculation port didnt take and in that sector theres thin and whispy cobweb.
Anyway to save the mycelium or whole jar?

I dont have a pic handy right now or id post them

Cobweb is a very fast and aggressive mold, chances are it's already dumped more spores in those jars, and even attempting to save them would result in further contamination of the jars and your grow area.

However, post pics when you get them. Could be something else until a TC confirms it.

So I've been reading. I'll see if I can get them sooner than 7pm. Id like to solve the problem before it's more of a problem.

Maybe dedicate some effort into sciencing them.

All of these are contaminated badly, cobweb and other contams. You're not saving any of them.

Something had to of went wrong for them all to contam, could have been improper sterilization or a contaminated inoculant.

The WBS is a bit of a different situation.
It was from an agar wedge.
Totally different day. The black specs are from the seeds i believe.
Dunno how it got webbed.

My bet is the spore print i used when it comes to the brf jars. Guess we'll see with the other jars.

Back to the drawing board.
Frustrating ass hobby.

These setbacks will soon be a distant memory as you frolic through fields of beautiful mushrooms, so many you won't know what to do with them all.

You know that scene in willy wonka where that one brat is griping how "but I want it now"
Thats my grown ass man self. Basically.

Theoretical question. On the more colonized cakes. Mostly colonized, would opening them in a peroxide bath (killing the cobweb) then transplanting them, sorta kind of work? The peroxide would keep the cobweb from bursting its spores out. Theoretically.
I wanna save my babies dammit

I would put all the cakes outdoors, or at least in the garage or something, keep them away from your grow area if you plan to open them.
Peroxide only slows down the Cobweb, it always comes back.

I was under the impression it murderized it. Damn. There goes plan A.

Well this provides an opportunity for two things. Science. And failure.

I will not go gentle into that good night.

I'll be doing it as far away from my work area as possible.  And cleaning the area they were in. Minimize future risk.
