Archways * 2
    #25070153 - 03/17/18 03:22 AM (5 years, 10 months ago)

So i'd been remodeling my house for about two or three years when hurricane harvey did 50% of my homes value in damage.

I firmly believe in seeing a bright side to everything, and besides now having the experience to do big side jobs for people, mine is that after knocking out alllll the pocket doors i had just re-skinned, stained, polyeurathaned and hung with new tracks and all that, i learned of these super simple, custom arches.

Which brings me to what i wanted to share with my new family at the Shroomery. Even 6 months ago these would have blown my mind.

They have all kinds. Super easy to install in an existing opening or to knock out a pocket door and put one in.

1) measure width of rough opening
2) measure how far down you want the arch to come to on the sides.
3) order, this one was $40. four nails on each half, use my sheetrock router tool to follow the form and make the perfect cut. Wet the back of a piece of sheetrock, wait 5min, wet again and slowly fold into place, i nailed it on my first try.

I just ordered 3 more for my house. Even the 80" wide one was like 50bucks.

You can do this project.

Home repairs are just like anything else, dive in and pay attention and you'll be fine and save a ton.

There's a wealth of knowledge here at the shroomery, ask if yall have problems! Good luck!

I'm so stoked!

This is my first time framing a wall, I had converging pocket doors here between the living room and den and it's a huge 100" wide rough opening.

Many of my cuts were crooked or maybe it's just the walls of this '55 house that are crooked that's what I'm gonna say, I did use a Carpenters swuare to not only make my lines but kept it on the 2x4 as a fence for the circular saw, you're almost guaranteed a perfect cut.

Once I learned that i needed to make little shims for the gaps because if they closed up they would tweak the angles and u would be able to tell after sheeteock, after that I'm good.

Totally doable for a diyer. Two more arches to frame up and then sheeteock on them all, it flies after rh first one

Just finished the other one I was worried about, i think the most addictive thing ever is getting good at new things and getting that confidence and seeing all the doors it opens. Took like half the time and it was more framing. Could have used less wood but I'm learning.

Can't wait til sheeteock won't be long!

Well i finished sheetrocking today, a few are taped and floated a few aren't.

I guess this will be my last post here, its such a difference that its hard to tell which before pic belongs to which after pic.

$40 or so can make you look like a pro. This was my first time people, first time sheetrocking was this house, first time doing sliding pocket doors (before hurricane), first time knocking out pocket doors and finding these arch kits on google (after hurricane) and i didn't even have a second person, how jealous i am of all you diy couples and what not. If anyone has any questions on closing up a door or general sheetrock stuff, lmk

Good luck to you my beautiful Shroomerites!
