hey is 5 minutes really long enough in the microwave to sterilize the syrup and water mix?. What kind of contamination rates are most of you getting with only 5 minutes?.

only 5 minutes??
my dog does about 3 minutes, or however long it takes to boil the karo solution for 35 seconds. which is usually 3 minutes. then he lets them sit in the microwave, with saran wrap over the top, until cool enough to grab. no contam issues in his case.

edit: i guess microwaves do vary, but ill stick by the 35 second boiling rule.

or you could put a lid and a layer of foil on the jar and steam it for 20. seems to work for most of us!
