heat blanket/colonization techniques
    #25059291 - 03/12/18 11:13 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hello everyone!

I love this online forum.  I look forward every night to logging on and discussing various things, its my new favorite hobby!  Thanks to everyone who is so helpful and friendly, everyone whove i've come in contact with is really nice!

Okay, on to my general post...

I know there are alot of differing views on the best way to colonize.  My post is directed specifically at BRF jars (pf style).  I'm wondering about using a heating pad to help the colonization along.  I hope a few of you can tell me about your specific method.  I even saw one tek where a guy made an incubation box, with insulation, temperature control, and a small fan.  I was thinking about making one of these, but then I see other threads where people say it's best to just leave them be.  I just would like to hear everyones technique of what they do with their jars while waiting to colonize.

Thank you all for your time!

No need for any of that. Jars go anywhere temp is 68-75.

If your temps are above 65 F they will be fine. If you want warmer temps that is fine too, but use a small space heater with a thermostat, and use a thermometer in your room so you know how warm it is. I just keep a space heater in my spare bedroom and my temps are always between 72-75 degrees F at all times. No need for direct heat, keep your jars AWAY from a heater if you use one. They just need an ambient room temp.

That is similar to what this guy did in his incubation box.  It was made really well, I wish I could find the link to the tek.  I think I may make one, The temperatures in my house fluctuate quite a bit.  Its usually between 62-75, but I think it'd be cool to have them in a seperate box that keeps them at ideal temperatures all the time, and still lets fresh air in every now and then.  Idk, just a thought.

If you really feel the need to do that go right ahead, but it’s unnecessary. Extra time to make, extra materials you don’t need. There’s a saying, I think it goes, “keep it simple stupid”
