I guess we could never say if a band like Phish could have developed without the Dead. But if there was no Dead, I would probably listen to more MMW...

I'd probably listen to a lot more live Band of Gypsy's because they're the closest jam band that didn't have roots with the Dead's existence.

I'd listen to whatever you were listening to, fool...
Actually i'd still be listening to what I do now, but in that genre i'd be listening to pink floyd.

Anyways.. If there was no dead and I needed to get out to jam, in the summer I'd just look out for festivals. There's plenty of big campouts here that have nothing to do with the dead every year already. Mostly deadheads though There's also really good local jambands like juggling suns, railroad earth... I've seen jefferson starship 3 times out here, we were talking about how they should come out here more. Jack rocks!!
But I must say, got grateful dead shows, and dead shows, and I never listen to the dead shows at home... The only time I really listen to the dead is to let people hear what they sound like these days on tour. My favorite shows, go figure, are before I was born I like the really bluesy pigpen days, and the keith and donna days are good too
Keep on shinin'
