A Drying Error

Hi,
New poster here. I grew some B+ at a friend's place with PF Tek (jars) and Shotgun Fruiting Chamber. She didn't do a good job of checking up on them so they fruited in their jars. It was quite a yield all things considered. In drying them, we made an error. In the past, I have laid them out and let them air dry then put them in a bag with a desiccant for extra drying to make grinding em up easier. I just put them right in the bag, there was not enough desiccant for the amount of shrooms and they got "moldy?". They were a little bruised (blue) to begin with, but they went nuts in the bag. They now smell like locker room feet although it's not horrible, and also have a bunch of blue on them. (Picture attached) Are they salvageable? Completely fucked? Somewhere in between? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Relative noob here, this is my 3rd grow.

Completely fucked, although I suppose if you're feeling adventurous you could boil the shit out of em and make tea, but if the mold produced a toxin then it could be dangerous...

At this point, if they smell bad, the only thing that will make them safe to eat is drying them in a proper dehydrator at high heat (145 to 160) to effectively pasteurize any bad bacteria lingering in the surface.
Low temperature drying just isn't going to cut it and NO an oven won't work.

They still look wet to me. How many days did you let them sit out to dry? What did you put them on to dry? They need at least 7 to 10 days to air dry, they need to be on a mesh screen for air flow. They need to be flipped over once a day. Dissacent should not be used to ‘finish’ drying. I use dissacent (packets) in storage AFTER they are completely dry. Shrooms should snap with ease when they are dry. Be like the pros and get a food dehydrator.

They are salvageable but I probably wouldn't eat them personally. But I'm not hurting for shrooms.
Is that vermiculite all over them?
Clean em up for God's sake lol

These are not salvagable. Do not eat them. Mushrooms are food, you judge whether or not to eat them the same way you do your food.

Yes but if he pasteurizes it in a dehydrator it should be safe to eat. He might get a bit of a stomach ache but it will kill any bacteria on the fruits if he used a high temperature method of drying them.
When I was a sushi chef my boss would hang the center part of a fileted fish(bones with a little meat basically) up on a coat hanger in the kitchen. The first few days it would smell bad but it would eventually dry and he and all the waitresses would break the bones up and eat them like chips.
Drying and heat can make just about anything safe to eat.

Drying completely kills all bacteria.
That's not to say the bacteria didn't produce toxins that were deposited on the mushrooms, and may still be there.
That's why you said he might get a stomach ache, I assume.
But it should be fine, unless you have a weakened immune system or something.

Gross! That's just gross. I agree with tiger. Maybe a long hard boil and you'd live.
