The Ecstatic said: Americans like to believe that the only way a brown person would be against America is if some demonic dictator brainwashed them. It’s just standard chauvinism. “Oh dear Syrians, you only THINK you like Assad, but once we kill half your community and destroy your nation you’ll come to see that [CIA agenda] was the right way all along.”
This idea was mostly used to deflect blame away from the US when ISIS sprang up (out of nowhere I’m sure) and took over vast swaths of the levant. It couldn’t be that the West has been systematically destroying any semblance of stability in the region for over a century, or that the utter destruction of entire societies has left behind a generation of angry Muslims with no future, or that the propping up of the gulf monarchies allowed jihadi Wahhabist thought to be the only game in town for that generation. No no, it’s that ISIS is brainwashing impressionable youths and those brown kids are too stupid to withstand it.
The chauvinism I see in this discussion is how brown people have no agency and if they rise up against their totalitarian leaders it’s only because they have been manipulated by the US.

Who's discounting criticism? I was simply stating they'd rather have Assad than a US puppet, especially now, after the devastating sanctions.

I know it's hard for Americans to understand how people in other countries might support someone who stands up to American imperialism, but you should go to Syria and talk with the people there to find out the truth about how people feel, like those from The Grayzone did, and like I did in Crimea.
Even those in Crimea who opposed rejoining Russia knew they were in a very small minority, and they didn't disagree with the election results as Americans do, because they understand how pro-Russian Crimea is.

Aaron Mate just caught The Guardian lying about his reporting. They had to correct the title of their article, but they refused to publish his full rebuttal, as it was too damning.
Edit: The taped recording he had with the author of The Guardian article is comedy gold.

Ballsalsa found a lie in the first 30 seconds of the last greyzone video you posted. Where’s their correction. Probably too obsessed with other reporters to worry about their own accuracy. Nobody does it like Glenn Greenwald, though.

I already corrected ballsalsa's correction, as it turned out NOT to be a lie.

You and Enlil claim a 5 year old law isn't new so you can make believe The Grayzone is lying. Alrighty then.

Do you consider a 5 year old pair of boots 'new'? How about a 5 year old pickle? If you had a dog for five years would you refer to it as your 'new dog'? Would you call a 5 year old car 'new'?
Do I need to go on?

I think the implication of them deliberately using the word “new” is that the law was in response to the Ukraine war. I looked at the media coverage and they certainly made it sound that way.
And yeah it’s a little absurdist to try to argue that a five year old law is a new law. Gaslighting some might say.

My turn:
Would you consider a 5 year old glacier new?
Would you consider a 5 year old country new?
Would you consider a 5 year old Constitutional amendment new?
You get the point.

It’s nice to look back and see that koods’ kneejerk defense of US imperialism hasn’t changed. Acknowledging our involvement in literally any foreign affair is tacitly robbing the foreigner of his/her agency.

Which ones exactly?
I made two wagers with people who disagreed with me. One with Falcon that Flynn or Manifort would be arrested. Right on both counts. Another with Webster10 that trump would be impeached. I was right twice.

Flynn/Manafort were arrested by a corrupt DOJ/FBI that serve the agenda of the democrats. These are no longer legitimate institutions, they have been corrupted to the point of being little more than pawns for the elite. In Flynn's case, he was totally innocent and his arrest was 100% political persecution by the hand of people whom are themselves corrupt criminals
As for the sham impeachment, that shit is as much of a joke as the J6 trials. Both are an embarrassment to our nation.. don't make me laugh
