Can u spoon-feed me?
abstract:
Quote:
Such a discrepancy between a Normal distribution of inputs, with a typical scale, and the scale invariant distribution of outputs, suggests that some hidden ingredient is at work behind the scenes. In this paper, with the help of a very simple agent-based model, we suggest that such an ingredient is just randomness. In particular, we show that, if it is true that some degree of talent is necessary to be successful in life, almost never the most talented people reach the highest peaks of success, being overtaken by mediocre but sensibly luckier individuals.
article:
Quote:
They then looked at people over a 40-year period, discerned what sort of things had happened to them, and compared that with how wealthy they had become.
They discovered that the conventional distribution of wealth -- 20 percent of humanity enjoys 80 percent of the wealth -- held true.
But then they offered painful words.
They still hurt, even though we know they're true: "The maximum success never coincides with the maximum talent, and vice-versa."
Never.
It's galling, isn't it, to look at some of the relatively talentless quarterwits who bathe in untold piles of lucre?
"So what is it that makes the difference?" I hear you pant, with an agonious grimace.
Are you ready for this?
"Our simulation clearly shows that such a factor is just pure luck," say the researchers.
The researchers actually looked at different events that had happened in people's lives and ranked them according to how lucky or unlucky these events were.
"It is evident that the most successful individuals are also the luckiest ones. And the less successful individuals are also the unluckiest ones," they said

Ah i see.
Being lucky is better i guess.
Im guessing by "lucky" means being born into the right family that isnt poor and is stable. That would be luck. Also being in the right city or state for a given oppurtunity.

Most studies are for fools. Always look at the bottom as most of the time it is some corp that bought it/sponsored it. Talent is great and luck is a myth. But you have to develop you talents, whatever they are. They just don't magically increase.
I like the word momentum instead of luck. Because you can have a great streak of it. But unlike luck and the four leaf clover myth it goes both ways. And I have been on both of them as we have all, it is life.

Luck isn't a myth... Its just not an exact science. It may be hard to define but its definitely a factor in life.
Being very lucky is essentially equivalent to being a statistical outlier... Same could be said for being very unlucky. Then there are the majority of us which are in the middle
Perspective can influence this somewhat, gratitude can make a bad run of luck seem like a fair hand

those would both be relevant examples.

LOL. EVERYBODY has problems. Never a living human didn't.
Thankfully, if approached in the right way, dealing with them it what causes said growth.

You can reach both fame and fortune with enough of either.
I mean, look at Ken Bone Talentless fuck who looked silly at the right place at the right time during a tense election, briefly exploded and had interviews on major news outlets, sold shirts and shit. He certainly didn't turn it into a career but if you're looking for a better example of luck taking you places look at our president!

A lot of well off people do not address their demons because they don't need to. That's kinda what I was getting at.
