Help me I.D. please! polypore bracket, central texas
    #25041751 - 03/06/18 12:20 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hi everyone! I am new to the forum, so i hope i am doing everything correctly. I found a polypore bracket mushroom growing on a fallen old oak tree. I just found it today (03/5/2018). I have lots of good pictures. The mushroom is 4 1/2 in. Wide. The pore surface does not stain. I am making a spore print now if it even works(i washed him off early). Then i will freeze him until i can accurately identify him. Thank you! url=https://files.shroomery.org/files/18-10/031261553-20180305_182823.jpg][/url]http://

Yeah, Ischnoderma are a little thicker, like the one in op's post.

Should have 4-6 pores per mm, pore surface should staim brown quickly when bruised.

Thank you all for the quick replies! It is not a Ischnoderma resinosum because the pore surface does not stain at all, as I stated in my original post above. It has 2-3 holes per mm in the pore surface. I found some online info on a Trametes cubensis and i am going to guess that is what it is. Unfortunately, there is very little info about this species and i have not come across any info describing if it is poisonous, palletable, it's uses, etc. Even though it is described as a common mushroom.

It should have a white spore print, I agree with mountain player on trametes species. Is it flexible or rigid? Pore depth would also help.

It is flexible, yet tough and moist. Kind of like a thick silicon. No hairs, so it is not tremetes veriscolor. The top is smooth like silicon rubber. Pore depth is 3 mm at the base and gets smaller or more shallow towards the edge or rim until they are no longer there. No spore print was produced over clear glass, but that might be because i rinsed it off before doing the spore print.

Polyporales are not my strong point by any means, I'll see if I can find a good key.

Not mine, either.

OP: Found this key to PNW polypores.  I realize you're in Central Texas, but you might give it a try.
