After this yrs flooding, I am wondering if I should try to start my own patch beside the creek in my back yard? I would of course need 2 do something similar to Textsounds BUT my area would need a LOT more due 2 the rocky/weedy terrain.
Problem is, the spore prints I made from this yrs batch - I sent 2 another member here & the substrate from my patch just got flooded = I don't know which may/may not have it.
Basically, could I set-up the area as needed & use the Ovoids i've dried or would it be better 2 use the spores from a print which I don't have?

I would find a print amd start there. Make some LC, colonize some sawdust bags or dowels and go from there. Or just go collect some myc from a spot. I wouldn't bother with dry fruits.

I'll send you your spores back in a several syringes if you want. Or I can send back the unused prints. One is plenty. They are currently colonizing 2 jars and doing so very quickly. I'm sure I can make all all my experiments with one print

That’s a killer set-up TS..Definitely keep your progress posted!! I’ve been thinking about collectingso e myc. from my spot and bringing it closer! My spot is right across from my house, but it’s right in front of my father in laws place.. My problem is that I don’t have spores either... I gave the few prints I made to my buddy before I realized that the season was going to end so abruptly!

Yea, I'm officially done until fall. I'l go on a few hikes in November just out curiosity. For now, I just put brf cakes in the chamber and I'll be casing my mono tubs tomorrow. It's my second experience with grain and monos and the first try failed but I'm feeling confident about this one. Chanterelles will be popping soon too, so that's something to look forward too. We won't have to fight nettle, celandine, or ivy for those.

A lot of tree service companies will deliver a truckload of mulch for free if you ask. I'm really thinking about doing that. Mulch and stembutts ftw

Found a few yesterday - I don't think I travel to Florida hunt at this point but the convenient spots are always worth checking if only for the purpose of taking a nice walk . G

Why not now? Mulch takes at least a year to colonize and fruit

The strip of land on our side of the creek technically belongs 2 the shopping center next door. B/4 them, we'd trimmed/cleared/cleaned it. Then they changed the creek 2 add a 3-hole culvert 4 an access rd behind us = #1 reason my basement floods. We maintain 1/2 of that strip but the creek bank 1/2 is completely overgrown + we dump our yard waste grass/rocks etc. due 2 our resentment 4 tearing up that area.
Picking a spot 2 do this w/ hopes of success would definitely require some input. I'll take some pics tomorrow eve & see if you all agree if the area would be worth even try'n.

Well, I have a spot 30 minutes from gmans finds and I may have to swing by tomorrow to see if it's still popping. I picked everything that was there last Monday but it's worth a shot.

i usually wait for the first weekend in july, but chants are up in the northern part of central VA according to a buddy that i taught a couple years ago. he only hunts chants.
it was one of the few times that i've taught someone to ID a mushroom that it came back to me tenfold...he took me to a spot he found that held pounds and pounds of them last summer. we got there at 7:45 am and a guy was coming out of the woods with two backpacks full...dude just grinned when i said "looks like you did pretty good".
all we had to do was go three hillsides off the main trail and they were along every deadfall tree on the western hillsides.
my local mulch spot kicked out a few more pins but is seemingly done. i'm sticking a fork in this season.

I've put stem butts down in the fall and they fruited in the spring. PNW though so that may play a factor. Our winters are way less harsh.

Yeah, ive been reading and studying the ,mycelium i collected a few weeks ago ,until next season.
