ID Help with Possible Panaeolus Cyanescens?
    #25034982 - 03/02/18 11:32 PM (6 years, 28 days ago)

Habitat:
They were found in a slanted pasture, sprouting directly from two separate cow paddies. QLD region, Australia.

Gills:
Pure white cap, apart from the larger one which has a slightly browning cap. The gills are dark grey to almost black with no veil.

Stem:
The length and diameter of the largest stem would roughly be the size of a pencil (no ruler). The colour of the stems are white apart from the top of one which has black spots (probably spore stains?). Smooth texture and solid stem.

Cap:
Slightly larger than an Aussie 50c piece. White cap with slight tanning of the largest one. Smooth texture. Quite conical and convex cap.

Spore print color:
Dark grey to black.

Bruising:
This is where the evidence I know contradicts itself. I have bruised all the stems without any sign of bluing (maybe a slight darkening of the biggest stem). I'm guessing that's a turnoff from them being P.Cyans?

Panaeolus cyanescens will have a much thinner looking stipe than the antillarum,  also antillarum have a glossy appearance to the top of the cap, cyanescens do not.

Dont be quick to throw any out when in the field,  I have had some that took up to 45min to show bluing.

That glossy cap, fat stem are no go's, the cyanescens will sometimes have a straw colored stem too, if they've got that fat stem, glossy cap, dont even waste your time.
