Are shrooms used for spore prints edible?

Can you eat shrooms you use to print? I'm pretty sure you can eat the stem but what about the cap where the spores dropped from? If so, any change in it's potency?

Since the spores contain no psilocybin then the only loss in potency would come from letting it oxidize in the air. As long as you don't print your spores more than a day I would imagine a negligible loss in any potency.

Yes. I just dry them once the print is done.

They're fine. Just dry them out. They're gonna taste extra bad though.

Lol I love this question. I think this is a good sign op is at least trying to think about what he's doing.
Your printed shrooms will be fine to eat. Just ad em to the dehydrator when you're done printing.

I too prefer stems. They go down so fast. My post was pretty sarcastic but caps are definitely not bad. Many of my friends however much prefer caps.

I prefer stems too. I don't like the texture of dry gills. Weirds me out.

I actually prefer caps to stems. You have to chew stems. With dry caps, you can crunch them a time or 2 and just chase them down with water or whatever.

Wait, so if literally 100% of the shroom is still edible with negligible loss in potency after printing, even though they taste worse, why don't people print every single one of their shroom harvests?

Every single one? Id need a printing box the size of a gymnasium.
In other words, if you grow more than a few cakes/totes it would be a massive pain in the ass

Because the ratio of psilocybin to dry weight has gone down when the cap opens.
So it's has lost potency, just not psilocybin. You might have to eat 4 grams instead of 3.5 to get the trip you want. (Don't know if that measurement is accurate, just kinda what I've assumed.)

Yeah, well i meant most of them I guess, and considering small growers?
Anyways, what do you mean you dont print more of them cause they lose potency when the cap opens? I knew they do, but isn't this unrelated to spore printing whatsoever? Or am I supposed to print after drying them? Cause I noticed they drop spores on the drying process, so I started printing right after a harvest.
Another question, when I was cutting the stem I might've sliced the gills a bit. Is this a problem? why?

We just take the prints we need for trades and keeping our supply up.
A single print could last you your entire growing career.
I don't print most cause I just don't need that many. There are lots of people who grow smaller though that DO print everything they grow. It's all about personal choice.

At scale it gets redundant. Who needs 300 prints of AA+?

For all we know potency could increase. A mushroom's metabolism changes once it's cut off from the substrate. It starts to cannibalize itself so it can keep producing spores. What effect that has on psilocybin production is anyone's guess.

Alright. And what about damaging the gills? I might've cut mine a bit when printing. Is this bad?
