Why haven't I heard about this.

There's a few states that I hadn't heard of.

Checking the Reddit kratom sub is a good way to get news.

They have a pinned post currently with all the states trying to pass bans, as well as the email address for the people we need to contact to stop the bans.

I sent out a mass email to almost all of them, and from what I can tell it went through to all but 1 email :strokebeard:

So even if you're not in any of these states it doesn't hurt to contact them and share some good info.

Let them know banning kratom will deter you from ever visiting or supporting their state and explain why it's a terrible idea.

For anyone who plans on emailing reps from any state, here's an excerpt from an email I just sent the Tennessee reps.

It's a partial list of Kratom's many alkaloids and their medicinal benefits:

Quote:

Ajmalicine (Raubasine): Cerebrocirculant, antiaggregant, anti-adrenergic (at alpha-1), sedative, anticonvulsant, smooth muscle relaxer. Also found in Rauwolfia serpentina.

Ciliaphylline: antitussive, analgesic. < 1% of total alkaloid content found in Kratom leaf.

Epicatechin: Antioxidant, antiaggregant, antibacterial, antidiabetic,

antihepatitic, anti-inflammatory, anti-leukemic, antimutagenic, antiperoxidant, antiviral, potential cancer preventative, alpha-amylase inhibitor. Also found in dark chocolate

7-hydroxymitragynine: Analgesic, antitussive, antidiarrheal; primary psychoactive in Kratom, Roughly 2% of total alkaloid content found in Kratom leaf.

Isomitraphylline: Immunostimulant, anti-leukemic. < 1% of total alkaloid content found in Kratom leaf.

Isopteropodine: Immunostimulant

Isorhynchophylline: Immunostimulant. < 1% of total alkaloid content found in Kratom leaf.

Mitragynine: Indole alkaloid. Analgesic, antitussive, antidiarrheal, adrenergic, antimalarial, possible psychedelic (5-HT2A) antagonist. Roughly 66% of total alkaloid content found in Kratom leaf.

Mitraphylline: Oxindole alkaloid. Vasodilator, antihypertensive, muscle relaxer, diuretic, antiamnesic, anti-leukemic, possible immunostimulant. <1% of total alkaloid contents in Kratom leaf.

Rhynchophylline: Vasodilator, antihypertensive, calcium channel blocker, antiaggregant, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, anti-arrhythmic, antithelmintic. < 1% of total alkaloid content found in Kratom leaf.

So to wrap this up here's a summary of the many medicinal benefits that we know of:

antiaggregant: effective in the arterial circulation, where anticoagulants have little effect.

Cerebrocirculant, Promotes circulation in the brain

anticonvulsant: Prevent epileptic fits

antitussive: relieves coughs

analgesic: relieves pain

Antioxidant: removes potentially damaging oxidizing agents in a living organism.

antibacterial, fights bacteria

antidiabetic, fights diabetes

antihepatitic Fights hepatitis

anti-inflammatory reduces inflamation

anti-leukemic: Treats leukemia

antimutagenic: Fights mutations

antiperoxidant, Not even sure on this one

antiviral, Fights viruses

potential cancer preventative, pretty self explanatory

antidiarrheal. also pretty clear

Immunostimulant, promotes a healthy immune system

antimalarial, Fights malaria

antihypertensive, Treats high blood pressure

antiamnesic, fights amnesia I believe

antipyretic, helps reduce fevers

anti-arrhythmic, helps with irregular heartbeats

antithelmintic, kills parasitic worms

Have not recieved any updates yet from the AKA, since the FDA decided to label kratom as an opioid...wonder whats brewing and if the DEA wanted they would have already announced something...I am guessing the 8 factor analysis is still ongoing which requires input from several entities.

The only reason why it's legal today is because of our combined and coordinated efforts to date. We've got to continue the fight.

It seems likely they are trying to focus on individual states right now.

Once they get a nice chunk to ban it then can then try again federally and say "look, all these states decided to ban it so it must be bad!"

Which is why we really need to rally behind these states. Even if we don't live there it doesn't hurt to share some good info and let them know we will never consider visiting if they do ban it.

This a million times over. They're attempting to set a perimeter. I strongly urge y'all to voice your lack of acceptance of this. Even if you or someone you know hasn't been helped by Kratom, it will only be a matter of time before your personal liberties are threatened.

AKA Update

The FDA and Big Pharma are Ramping up Attacks on Kratom

We Need Your Help to Stop Them!

Failing to keep up our fight in Congress and in state legislatures would be the worst possible scenario for the Kratom Community.

HELP FIGHT BACK AGAINST BIG PHARMA

I hope you will take a minute to read this email.

We all know the FDA and Big Pharma are ramping up their attacks on kratom. The FDA and CDC are using the recent salmonella outbreak to single out kratom product manufacturers and retailers to force them out of business.

And the FDA has convinced some of its allies in the U.S. Congress to file legislation to make any substance that hits the mu opioid receptors in the brain a Schedule I substance.

The FDA anti-kratom propaganda machine is bullying state legislators all over the country to ban kratom.

Failing to keep up our fight in Congress and in state legislatures would be the worst possible scenario for keeping kratom legal.

If you agree with me, then I need your immediate help. In just over a week, the AKA will face a budget deadline where we have to keep our lobbying teams on the ground in Washington, D.C. and in more than eight states – and, trust me, that is expensive to do – and I have to make a recommendation to the AKA Board of Directors on new science we need to fight the latest FDA assault on kratom.

If we fall short of the funding goal, then the FDA and Big Pharma will have a field day claiming they are winning the battle. Our enemies will highlight the failure to fund these lobbying efforts to keep kratom legal as a significant defeat for our cause.

CLICK HERE TO HELP THE AKA FIGHT BIG PHARMA

The FDA wants to use the failure to fund our lobbying teams and science research as a sign of weakness – and use that to convince the DEA they should accept the bogus scheduling recommendation to ban kratom.

We have to send the FDA a strong message that we are not going away, we refuse to be bullied and we will expose every lie they tell whenever they tell it. But I desperately need your help to keep taking that fight to the FDA and Big Pharma.

Please contribute as much as you can afford to let me know I can count on you.

When I was asked to take over the AKA, I committed to improve the organization, make us stronger, and bring professional advocacy and a commitment to good science. I took the job because I share the strong commitment you have to keep kratom legal.

Now I need your help.

Your donation today to the AKA will guarantee the FDA and Big Pharma will know that our voice and fight to keep kratom legal will continue, and we are NOT going anywhere. And it will let me know that I can count on you for the battles ahead of us.

Sincerely,

Dave Herman, Chairman
American Kratom Association

P.S. In about 10 days Congress will be back from recess and we will be facing our largest fundraising deadline of the year, and it’s critical we keep our lobbyists working in Washington and in the state capitols and continue to fund our scientific research – and, with your help, hopefully increase those efforts. I need to know you are with me. Please let me know by making a contribution right away.
YES, DAVE!  YOU CAN COUNT ON ME TO KEEP KRATOM LEGAL!

I think it would be helpful for the AKA (or someone without formal ties) to organize a list of the vendors who will donate proceeds of their revenue. A lot of people can't or won't chip in, but it's guaranteed they will continue buying kratom (if not stocking up in a panic). I do feel they might have more success with gaining contributions this way. Regardless, I'm throwing some more their way. Here's the link:
[urlwww.americankratomassociation.org/donate[/url]

Careful, upon googling it appears there is a phishing link.

There are a couple organizations helping protect Kratom in the States, The American Kratom Association being one the biggest...the former director Susan Ash stepped down for exactly the reason you brought up...missing financial records. Dave quickly took over and has done a great job in my opinion as I have been following the AKA since 2015. They in my opinion are why the DEA reversed their ban proposal in 2016. I do not know anyone in the AKA personally, but rely on them to give me the latest news on Kratom.

The correct link to donate is http://www.americankratom.org/donate

Definitely should not appear as a phishing site.

Also many of the top vendors do donate a percentage of their sales to the AKA, specifically the ones that got hit with the Salmonella outbreak the hardest.

Thanks for clarifying the link. The website in question is 'americankratom.org' instead of americankratomassociation. Not sure what you thought I was trying to convey, I agree the AKA has been the foundation for the movement. Susan Ash doing what she did wounded the momentum and its credibility, so it's important that things are back on track.

My comment was in regards to how to motivate people to donate. Even with the real threat of a ban ever present, getting people to contribute financially let alone pick up the phone to call their state representative is like pulling teeth. However, if there was a public list of which kratom vendors donate to the cause, it would help to get dollars where needed the most. People are going to buy kratom as long as it's legal to do so- if it was common knowledge the suppliers willing to donate a percentage of their profit, I would imagine people would exclusively subscribe through such avenues.  It would also encourage more vendors to participate in charity, increasing overall contributions.  Just a thought, I hope everyone can pitch in.

Everytime i see an article on NYT or any prominent newspaper and look at the comments about kratom, its all people supporting kratom. Even "NY Times picks". Most of the people saying "its contributing to the opioid problem" are quickly ignored,

Of course, fox news might have a different take. Which is crazy because thats a network tailored for people who suffered from opioid addiction the most, since most of the really opioid-stricken places tend to be very conservative. (One nearby town is a perfect example)

Pot and Kratom seem like way better alternatives to subutex and methadone. CNN aired a good documentary about weed helping with the opioid epidemic called Weeds 4: Pot Vs. Pills...Look how long its taken for weed to be socially acceptable medicine, it would be a shame for kratom to suffer the same fate.

Its hard to say kratom vs buprenorphine IMO. Its so different. Prices included. But i think if youre on bupe for a while, its actually better to switch to kratom after, rather than after oxy fent or dope

Pharma is evil, but i do not believe buprenorphine is evil. Its not like a true substition therapy either since you stay on the same dose and hopefully lower it. I dont suggest stopping bupe, i suggest switching to a weaker opiate for a few weeks. Makes it alot easier.

Also, bupe isnt strong enough to hold true fentanyl addicts. Methadone is. Theyre Very different, just both used for the same purpose with long half lives. But methadone is much more of a real opioid. I mean i founnd it euphoric as fuck. More than oxycodone, back in the day. I wasnt taking them alot, but those methadose 40mg wafers, they were strong! I think methadone might deserve this reputation, bupe not at all. Thats my opinion.

Just dont stop any of those cold turkey

AKA update:

Fundraising Goal Achieved!

Dear Kratom Warrior:

Over the last several days, I have been truly humbled by the outpouring of support and generosity by the defenders of kratom.

Last week, we asked you to help us achieve our goal of raising $28,450 that would allow us to pay for a scientific push against the misinformation campaign the FDA is pushing about kratom. The opportunity to pay for this much needed work was even more exciting due to the generosity of one of our donors who agreed to match each donation $1 for $1.

Well, you all stepped up and helped raise over $70,000!

From the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU!

As promised, your $70,000 now becomes $140,000!

This money will now allow us to move forward in hiring several teams that will descend on states like Wisconsin and Rhode Island, and in local communities like Jerseyville, IL where we need to make the case for repealing bans on kratom that currently exist. Your tremendous response and support will also allow us to commission Dr. Jack Henningfield to develop a set of industry standards that will further protect consumers and make the industry safer for everyone.

Make no mistake...your generosity sent a clear message to the FDA that we will not sit idly by why they spread lies about kratom.

The truth is on our side - kratom is safe, not highly addictive, and helps millions of people live a happier life.

I also want to address an important question raised by some donors, and a few who declined to donate despite supporting the cause, regarding how donor lists are handled by the AKA.

AKA does not sell our donor lists to anyone.

The AKA also withholds names of individual donors that are protected by IRS filing regulations so no other organization can take those donor names and solicit contributions from you. We fully respect your privacy, and we know how irritating it is to be barraged by groups who have purchased donor lists from other organizations and charities, and that is why you have our commitment to not sell your name and contact information to anyone.

You have my word on that, and I will not violate that trust.

You have our commitment that we will continue to fight to protect kratom. I know that with all of us working together, nothing can stop us.

Thank you!

Another update, now is the time to contact your reps and try and get these bills ammended:

Quote:

Protect Access by American Consumers
to Natural Botanical Plants and Herbs

The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6 on Friday that combined 58 different bills that attempt to end the scourge of the opioid epidemic in America.

The sponsors of H.R. 6 in the House admit it’s not perfect, and they are dead right on that point.

In the rush to show how serious the Congress is in addressing the opioid crisis prior to the mid-term elections, several of these 58 bills contain provisions that will actually deny Americans access to safe natural plants and herbs that help Americans manage their health and well-being.

I am asking you to contact your U.S Senators immediately and ask them to support amendments to these proposed bills to exclude natural botanical plants and herbs from the wide swath of substances presently included in many of those bills.

Two of those bills, the SITSA Act (Stop the Importation and Trafficking of Synthetic Analogues Act of 2017), and the SCREEN Act (Stop Counterfeit Drugs by Regulating and Enhancing Enforcement Now) both attempt to stop deadly synthetic opioids from being shipped into the United States from other countries.

But both of these bills contain such broad definitions of the substances covered under the proposed legislation they will actually ban natural botanical plants and herbs.

It is critical that the Senate support amendments to exclude natural botanical plants and herbs.

Your Senators need to hear from you immediately!

If you don't know your Senator's contact information, please click HERE or call the Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121.

Millions of Americans safely and responsibly use natural alternatives to dangerously addictive and often deadly chemically formulated drugs, including opioids, and these bills will literally block consumer access to safe natural plants and herbs.

On Monday, please call your Senators and ask them to support every amendment that exempts natural botanical plants and herbs – that are in no way synthetic analogues of an opioid – and protect the right of consumers to have access to safe alternative products to manage their own health needs.

The Senate needs to support the amendments to SITSA and SCREEN to exclude natural botanical plants and herbs.

Thank you,

Dave Herman
Chairman
American Kratom Association
