What's the coolest animal you've caught with your bare hands?
    #25027375 - 02/27/18 08:53 PM (6 years, 1 month ago)

I caught a pigeon in mid-flight once.  It was righteous and my friends were all like whoa dude.  Then I immediately washed my hands bc I hear they are very dirty indeed.

I saw my uncle tackle a wild goat once.  The goat dropped so many tiny little turds.  They looked like raisinets.

My friend Casey caught a little garden snake and it bit his dumb ass.

Snakes, frogs, salamanders, newts, mice etc. I used to love catching animals when I was a kid and building habitats for them in my back yard. I legit had a frog pond where I would gather tadpoles, and watch them grow up into frogs.

I also caught a pigeon once but it was cornered on the ground. Also caught a dove in a wrecking yard. It was perched on the back seat of a hatchback. I slammed the hatch shut, went in the car and grabbed it. I walked around with it for a minute, pleased with myself before I realized,'I don't need a dove'. Then I let it go.

Catching one in flight is more impressive though.

I've also caught tarantulas by hand just by putting my hands in the way and letting them walk on.

I've caught lots of snakes. Nothing dangerous but I did catch a gopher snake that must have been six or seven feet long, which is a big ass gopher snake.

My dad and brother used to catch rattle snakes. I didn't think it made sense from a risk/benefit standpoint. My brother saw a patient at the hospital with a rattle snake bite on his hand and decided to stop messing with them.

I've caught lots of crawdads and a few crabs by hand. That's a little bit exiting because if you don't grab em right they can pinch you.

I've also caught lots of amphibians, insects and lizards.

I once was able to pet, well not really pet I guess, but touch a baby deer in the wild. I guess I should emphasize though, it wasn't really in the wild. The town I lived in was nestled in the forest, and the deer would come into town all the time, and were very used to people. We used to throw apples in our backyard for them to eat, and I was able to touch one while it was eating an apple before it pranced away.

Craw dads, mice, frogs and lizards are the only animals I've caught by hand. Never caught snakes but my friend would catch garter snakes often and I'd hang out with them.

I'll have to think about this one. Probably a water moccasin or sea turtle. I could have caught a manatee once, but there were too many people around.

The worst one was when I first moved to Florida and I wasn't used to seeing lizards ever. So I just started the work day and this beautiful blue skink popped out. I wanted to grab him and throw him in my lunch box to show my girlfriend. As soon as I grabbed him he detached his tail from his body and I got the tail juice. Within minutes my whole body was covered in a rash and I still had like 7 more hours before I could leave.

For years i used to take care of a python that got up to about 18 ft. At one point i'd gotten her to where she was eating nothing but pre-killed food with no fuss, and she seemed to not equate movement with food or physical threat at all. Then she began to spend summers at a boyscout camp where they fed her live chickens and rabbits all summer. It absolutely ruined her disposition. After that i always made sure that someone else was helping with her tail end when i had to catch and handle her, and no matter how many times i safely did that, she never again ceased to genuinely intimidate me. And giant-snake piss is fucking disgusting

A DUCK!

As an 8yo kid I lured a duck to me with bread, seized it by the neck and pulled it out of the water.

It was flapping its wings ferociously, quacking for me to let go.

I shouted to my father, who was working on our sailboat: "DAD! Are we gonna cook it?!"

He was like "Let it go, we have Chili Con Carne for dinner!"

For the record, in harbors I always caught crabs, mussles and periwinkles for us to cook and eat.

It was a bit too hardcore for my dad
