out door beds

hey i was wondering if any one ahd any tips on care and upkeep or out door beds....my frieds cat has jsut made one following the out door tek, this cat lives in upstate NY and the temps during the day are about 50-65 easly and at night 50's and high 40's there was about 5 quarts used in about a 12 inch by 12 inch block tucked nicly away in the shade...any pointers or tips would be great thank you

well, read Moe's outdoor tek. though, i am in roughly the same spot you are and its way too cold out IMHO. i'm waiting another month to go outdoors. maybe a bit too early, man. what are you using for nutrients? composted manures, peat, and wormcastings is what i plan to use on my 2x4ft bed. somewhere around here you should be able to find some good info, do a search for "outdoor" and you'll find plenty o stuff for outdoor growing.

i read moes tek.... im using manure (horse and cow mixed) i think that it will be fine with the temps i dont see it freezing any time soon and i figured the sooner in the ground the sooner i will see fruits...and i was just looking for some advice i have done searches and read posts, i was just looking for some live feed back...

well, you can't really get fruits until you get temps in the upper 60's to mid 70's consistently. though, i don't think things will be all that bad. how did you layer/mix your shit?

i did hay then a thin layer of poothen i put the cakesin the a small layer of poo then hay then sprinkled poo on top with a bit of dirt, and it can still colonize a bit in thses temps it will just be slow and im jsut impashent

i would like to hear about the lowest temps people have had success with , where i am , in the summer it easily gets up to 90 during the daay and low 60's high 50's during the night

by the way...where would one be able to find hay if they were living in a fairly metropolitan area

i have no idea, we have a barn, and we get it from a guy who cuts his own.... how far are you into a city...i dont really knwo to much about hay

Well you could try calling some feed stores(look in phone book), or agway if you have them, or try asking a pet store where you can get hay
