You can have an influence on your likelihood of a heart attack or stroke.
Quote:
Stroke is a largely preventable event. Many risks can be reduced by making lifestyle changes. As we get older our arteries become narrower, but certain things can dangerously accelerate the process. These risks include:
- smoking
- high blood pressure (hypertension)
- not doing enough physical activity
- obesity
- high cholesterol levels (often caused by a high-fat diet, but can result from inherited factors)
- a family history of heart disease
- excessive alcohol intake (which can also make obesity and high blood pressure worse, as well as causing heart damage and an irregular heart beat).
In mention of 'perfect control', I think a better question to ask would be, "What is there in your life that you cannot change or have influence over?"
So what is out of your control? (control being influence)

Obviously we weren't around to influence our own birth..
I don't think I started life in control, or that I could influence much as a toddler, but as I grew, so to do I think the control I have in my life has grown.

BrendanFlock said: I would say about 58% of the things in my life are under my control..
Stuff like physical movement,
The appearance and feeling of free will and choice..
The stuff thats not in control are the following..
Have to eat and sleep.. use the washroom.. need money to purchase or aquire anything in a capitalist system..
Need to be entertained, within reason, have to move or do somethimg..
Habits in general.. I need to wear clothes based on climate..
Have to breath fresh and filtered air..
Have to see the same freinds and family each year on and off..
Have to look at the same things everyday..
What do you guys think?
see my reply on free will the focus seems to be on 'control' but should be on the notion that there is an object, unchanging, that is The 'Self'
if there is no unchanging, uninfluenceable, object, that is the 'self', the whole issue is moot or irrelevant
perhaps one could say this missing the real issue is precisely how the self perpetuates its illusory supposed central importance
it seems a tricky subject

yeah I agree it's probably true
I almost haven't done weed and lsd for years and have hardly drunk alcohol for years too
I don't know how I could have avoided it, what measures I could have taken, I think 2 times 45 minutes of meditation a day could have avoided it or 4 drawings a day.
I don't like alcohol and weed and lsd much. or at all.
but yeah I would like to become not messed up, maybe I am a little less messed up now, I just don't understand why it has taken so long. really weird. but wonderful for you guys that you like them and that they don't mess you up (you that they didn't/don't mess up)

I like to imagine I'm completely hopeless and there is no future for me. Then it feels like I'm just cruising.
If we had no hopes or fears, then we can just chill. Not saying I'm not hopeful or full of fear. But it'd be cool.

like if the drug use made a mess in my head (metaphor mess in a house a small pile that is a mess and now there is only half the mess). I think it is largley probable

I don’t mean it in a bad way. It makes me feel present. How much thinking are we doing without even moving? A lot of thoughts seem entirely useless. In a good way

Hopes/fear I'd attribute to/as mental ponderings of the ethereal.
Opinions are utterly useless to linger on.
If you are just to survive, and not care for egoistic pursuits/dreams, you'd be more natural in those things you "want"
Basically a form of acceptance.

coming back from being really messed up shows the amount of control we have. it is an enormous effort but can be done by working (conditioning and cultivating) the material (mind/body) we are made of.
is there a percentage for that? is it 1% or 100%, the transformation can be extensive, including complete reversal, but the time it takes is lengthy.
it takes intention, application, patience, and getting out of the way (humility).
