It wouldn't hurt to wait, it would get bigger and if you're gonna cook it that day or next it doesn't matter.

Taste may be a hair richer now than tomorrow but not a huge difference.

Just thought I'd seize an opportunity to point that out. Im just now getting my eye for them, and it helped to let a few grow past their prime so I could see it

Hey Quad, I've got that with all of my blocks. I've been wrestling with the issue for years now and I still didn't solve the problem. Got some slight improvement by opening the bags at 10 weeks. Too many pins is often a problem of over incubation. I changed strain because mycelia.be told me that 3790 was less susceptible to produce too many pins. It helped a bit but it didn't solve the problem. At the moment I'm experimenting with less supplementation. I used to put in 20 % bran and 10% spawn. I've cut down the bran by ten percent hoping that they'll produce less pins. You could prune them but it's too time consuming if you got 80 blocks fruiting :roll eyes:

I missed your reply somehow. I had great flushes on 4-5 month old blocks last fall. I'm thinking it might be the temperature swings in my house during incubation causing it.

...do you take them out of GH and let them dry out for a while and then resoak and go for a third flush or something?

There have been so many on the first flush, haven't bothered with any more. One flush wonders:lol:

We are talking about 4-5 months of consolidation. Been throwing blocks out after 1 flush.

My reishi monotub is looking nice!

I’m unfamiliar with this species but I believe I have antlers starting to form. There are spots where the myc gets a sheen, bubbles out, and begins to produce lots of sweat (liquid, some coloration but not the same as metabolites from fighting off an infection like I’ve seen with other species).

Spawned 1/31 and this is on 2/10. Any experienced antler growers willing to see if those spots I mentioned are antlers starting to form? There are some in the middle of the tub.

My reishi bag I spawned on 2/2 is producing a bunch of water even though the sub was prepared on the dry side...is that normal for reishi? It seems to be colonizing fine...at 99% colonized now

Ohhhh. Well I have a lot to learn still. Which is good.

The pasteurized shiitake blocks have maybe two popcorn kernels on the whole block, and it's only maybe 40% brown, but I put it in GH at day 60 anyway. Yesterday was day 63 I believe and I noticed both were pinning already (only 2 pins each so far, avg for this culture on this sub).

My enriched and sterilized blocks were completely popcorned head to toe by week 3 I think it was, they are just starting to brown and Im at day 45 maybe.

So it seems it may be best to just trial and error on when to put into fruiting?

Perhaps as long as one could wait without it pinning invitro?

I'll just have to try everything and see what's best

Water is normal for reishi. Just leave it.

Antlers start out as a white blob and just gets taller, slowly turning colors the taller it gets.

I would try and wait at least 60 days on the enriched shiitake.

What's up with the dark spot on this king cap? I'm paranoid it's bacteria because my hydrofogger is on a timer and everything gets a bit too wet. I don't have enough experience to spot the difference. Otherwise it looks like a happy mushroom, just thought I'd ask. The spots showed up when it was small.

I ate the first oyster mushroom I grew with my family, and I gotta say it wasn't bad at all...I actually liked it paired with spaghetti ..and thats odd I don't eat mushrooms unless they're fried morels
