Neglect, no.  Abuse, maybe.

Enil, OP already said she's been charged with first-degree murder.

lock and handcuffs, literally, no there weren't any locks or handcuffs.

but a physically disabled 2 year old that needs a G-tube probably can't operate a phone, probably can't reach a doorknob to open a door, probably can barely even walk, and definitely can't feed themselves or hydrate themselves. The parent knew this. that's figuratively the same as knowing there's a person in handcuffs at your home, and not doing anything about it.

in this specific case, it's clear she purposefully wanted the kid to die so she wouldn't have to deal with the responsibility of taking care of it. she was trying to get rid of her kid while trying to make it seem not so much like direct murder. that's direct murder

Who cares what he/she is charged with?  People are charged with shit they didn't do every day.

The former.  And, to be clear, the child was 2 years old and left for 3 days without food and water.  She has been formally charged with first-degree murder.  She told my friend, prior to murdering his son, that she was going to use the kid to make him suffer.  Her family has a fair amount of money, loves the kid, and would have gladly watched after him... All she had to do was ask.  She also tried pinning the infant's murder on one of her friends, later confessing that her friend had nothing to do with it.

For the record, I am not making claims about what my friend -- the child's father -- has told me regarding the case.  I have only relayed what has been reported by multiple news outlets.  Also, one of my state's child protective services administrators is taking heat over this case, because numerous calls were made to the agency regarding abuse and neglect, all of which were determined by the agency to be unfounded.  These lawyers work for the same system that failed my friend.  I am not saying that all lawyers are bad, but I think the laws that are written, at least where I live, often favor the mothers.  As I previously stated, my friend tried to tell the judge about her behavior, that she had threatened to harm the child in the past.  The judge scoffed at my friend and would not accept his testimony, during the custody battle.

is it just in your nature to see everything as intangible until a conviction is made?

No, it's in my nature to recognize that there is more than one side to every story.  I am not a witness, and I seriously doubt you are either.  Yet you've already convicted the woman without even having heard her side of the story.

Is it your nature to jump to conclusions?

She deliberately left him in his playpen for 3 days without food and water -- she admitted it.

i didn't jump to conclusions until OP began clarifying the circumstances. I'm only basing what I say off OP's words. I'm not in court. I'm in my pajamas, in my room on the shroomery. i'm giving my educated guesses and opinions based on what OP is saying. that's kinda the point of thread discussions.

this thread isn't the woman's trial. it's coming from the perspective of OP. we're all curious about what happened exactly, but OP is the only one here with any information on it. at the very least we should be respectful enough to not downplay this incident as if it was anything less than murder because he specifically stated "murder" in his first post. that's a pretty heavy distinction to make.

Yeah sorry that was my bad, the reply was meant for Enlil. He tends to get all lawyery. That’s absolutely terrible. She will rot in jail and the only people around will think she’s a piece of shit. She has to live with it, too, you know? My uncle fucked up, let his son die because he was smoking crack while his 1.5 year old wandered around the farm until his little skull got crushed by a loose farm gate, the kind you link together with the pegs. See it in his face every time. He’s a piece of shit.

Sorry you and your buddy are going through a tough time.

She admitted it to the police and the judge, per the numerous articles written about the case.  She has been charged with first-degree murder and has a $1.5 million bond.
