Mix the water with just the verm first then add the grain see if that helps

2:1:1 ratio works great. Mix the water and verm thoroughly first. Then add the brf and mix that real good. When you load jars dont tamp it down at all. Compaction prolongs colonization. I didnt listen and my jars are taking forever to colonize but look otherwise healthy.

Grind your own whole brown rice in a coffee grinder or blender. Leave it where it has some small chunks of the grains left and not all powered. Works awesome, and you won't have the compacting issue.

Will do. Hopefully it'll do more than go green.

I've been having great success with this method. I'm pulling roughly 2-2 1/2 oz dry each 20 qt unmodified mono tub

Seems to fit the '~70g wet/cake spawned' perfectly
I calculated that you pulled out about 900g wet and ended up with 60g dry..

A few months back I finally got sick and tired of seeing all the pathetic results from cakes inside SGFC so I started to tell EVERYONE that they should spawn their cakes instead. I have no clue how many of those that took my advice that are having success today but feels damn good to see that BRF cakes finally start to produce good for everyone

I will always agree with this.I have always had better results from bulk spawning my cakes.Bulk spawning is more forgiving, less maintenance, and from what I've been seeing, fairly consistant in yield. Here's a pic from way back when I would just crumble and case a cake in a salad dish and fruit open air.
I would not get a flush like that from a cake in a SGFC.

Yea for sure this is an awesome method for consistent results.
What I find interesting about this method is that I'm using less than two cups of ground wild bird seed per tub and getting more than two oz. Certainly by grinding the grains the mycelium has a lot easier time distributing the nutrients throughout its network.
I've always just been a fan of cakes because they are nearly fool proof. Making the transition to bulk I am trying to make a fool proof method that will get results 90 to 100% of the time so cakes being so fool proof seem like the obvious choice to me
So I've been working on a way to get every one of my tubs thru 2 flushes every time without getting any mean green anywhere. Has anyone else had the problem of their cakes to bulk subs getting the mean green around the first flush?

I haven't seen any contamination problems first flush. Most of them flush out before I toss them in the pile. On the subject of flushes, what kind of flushes are people getting? My first is always strong, but the second is somewhat lacking.(few, but big heavy fruits.)Nutrients all used up from the first flush?

Same here. Another contributing factor could be substrate damage from picking fruits and less places to form pinning

Same here, a full first flush and a humble second flush with few larger fruits. But I have not seen the green once with BRF>bulk. The substrate usually gets spent after the second flush.

Finally have a cool pinset on my B+ BRF cake to shoebox grow!
They kind of blew up over night while I was drinking whisky downstairs.
