I messed up. But did I?

I made agar
9g agar flakes (all I had)
1/2 liter of water
4g of potato flakes
4teaspoons of honey (forgot to halve that)

Now so far all of what ive used seems to be going fine, one didnt get enough agar in it and was quite liquid. Thought "fuck it" and put a mycelium chunk in there. Well. The "agar", or lack thereof, is now gelatinous.
Could it be colonizing then? Id post a picture but im quite far from it at the moment.

It wont colonize well if its watery. If its solid it should be fine. Maybe itll harden over time

Not worried if it doesnt. It was only one mycelium chunk.
Did it for science or whatever.

I use 10 g per 1/2 liter. Can't imagine that 1 g would make that big a difference, but I've never tried it and I use powdered instead of flakes. I've seen food related recipes calling for more agar if you use flakes, so maybe there's something going on there.

For science or whatever!

I found powder after I bought the flakes. Wouldnt let it go to waste.
Wont try it again if I dont have to.
Might use a mortar/pestle and try to grind down my flakes.

and yes, 1 gram in either direction can result in overly firm, or sunny side egg style media :thumbdown:

I was more worried about the contamination risk from all the honey initially.
Some are definitely gonna be too firm.

You do the "no pour" thing? Just curious how some are too firm if they're all from the same batch.

Flakes didnt dissolve into liquid. Came out clumpy on the bottom and liquidy on top. I poured them into their containers from my mixing cup.

For 500 mL I mix mine in a quart jar. Microwave till it reaches boiling, put the lid on, and shake. I repeat that two or three times till I'm sure it's well mixed.
