I've heard conflicting info, but is there an issue with cloning from a bacterial (trich) sub? The trich isn't green/sporulating so I don't think the outside of the fruit will have spores, so I should be good to take tissue?

There is always a possibility. Worst case it contams and
you just transfer until clean.

I don't think spores are the arguable issue in this case. Trich is parasitic and I wouldn't be surprised if filamentous strands of trich have worked their way into other wise healthy looking fruit bodies.

That's the conflicting information I'm talking about. I've always heard that trich doesn't attack fruits, only the sub. If it works it's way into the the fruit, it's still fine to harvest though?

I'd avoid harvesting fruits in direct contact with the trich, as they have a tendency to rot.

I have cloned fruits from a trich contaminated tub with no issues.  Just use your head & don't drag mold into your lab.  You can always wash the fruits in distilled water/5% bleach solution to kill any external spores since you're cloning inner tissue.

It would be fair to assume that a fruit body could carry trich into it during development.

Yes, the tiny amounts of trich you may consume wouldn't harm you unless you're allergic, afaik trich isn't toxic to humans. It's an extremely prevalent mold, and you are more likely to consume it from foraged mushrooms and in higher quantity I'm sure.

basically here is the deal. wash the outside with some hydrogen peroxide. then don't cut the fruit open because cutting drags whatever is on the outside to the inside onto the sterile tissue. Make sure to pull it apart and smple it from the thickest part furthest away from the trich. If the fruit does not have trich growing directly on it there is a good chance there will be no filaments in the thicker part of the tissue. Good luck!

I know how to clone. I'm just curious about how trich interacts with fruit bodies. I'm not worried much about the outside, just the inside. Thanks grain and burnout, good info. I'll probably just harvest what I can and ditch the tub. I have another one without trich and solid clusters so no reason to push it with this one.

No problem, I would take a few tissue samples just to let it grow out and see if trich pops up, but that's just me, I like to experiment.

I walked through my house with this plate open 10 days ago for shits and giggles, I had botched it during the pour. Much my surprise there is only bacteria with possibly some oyster mycelium mixed in there.

I had expected to see at least penicillium, but nothing, no mold that I'm aware of. Does anyone else find this a bit bizarre?

I'm dead tired and the green is coming, otherwise I would. Maybe I'll rally and take a few cluster clones. I have a few 5-pin bunches that look promising.

I wasn't trying to insult you or anything. I was just suggesting that there probably isn't trichoderma in the core tissue especially if the infection appeared later on in the tubs growth cycle and wasn't introduced from the plate because it attacks the mycelium. I've only seen it attack dying or dead fruits. That could have been an entirely different mold I saw doing that too.

Like two weeks ago I cloned a couple AA+ pins from an overly wet shoebox that was about to mold, smelled really off and colonized super slow, only reason I did it was because I had realized I gave away all my spore prints and had just harvested and dried my other AA+ tubs days before but didn’t want to lose the culture.

The initial clones had satellite mold germination but I was able to transfer away from it, and then once more, and now have three clean clone cultures about a quarter sized each. Plan to do a poke LC with one I made like 6 weeks ago and have yet to inoculate

The second that you see trich in any form, its time to carefully abort the mission and start from scratch. Ive tried in the past to isolate clean mycelium awag from trich and its just not worth it. Thats just my opinion.

I'm up early and might take a tissue sample just for the fuck of it. Thanks Germs and TBC for info.

I've successfully staved off trich outbreaks to get fruits on a few occasions. It's not optimal, but if you need fruits, moving it out of the grow area and performing surgery knocks it back enough on some cases. I've only tried saving when I'm near harvesting, though.

Bummer, I think his end of the trade got lost in the mail. His trade ratings are golden so I doubt I got screwed over, and if I did oh well, not much that can be done about it and it was 1 measly plate anyway. Anywho, I'll drop it since it's waaay of topic here

Good job man. Im glad youve polished your movement away from the bacteria in the midnight mycology thread.

Im happy that ive got something out using biopsy.

Almost getting near to my 1st shoebox while the temp permits.
This will be goin to grain in 1 last transfer from 7 oclock sattelite. Ive became clumpsy. But mushyboi dry sab also works..
Fingers crossed.
