Calcium discussion:
More on calcium, calcium oxalate and internal pH regulation, here.
"As the crop progresses and more insoluble calcium oxalate is formed a counter effect is taking place. The reserve of calcium carbonate is highly insoluble so is slow to react to oxalate. This is a hindrance to the mycelium function – chemistry comes to the rescue! As carbon dioxide streams through the casing from the compost catabolism a reaction occurs with the excess of chalk. Equilibrium develops between the C02 and calcium carbonate where a significant percentage is converted into soluble calcium bicarbonate. This solubility makes the conversion into insoluble calcium oxalate much easier for the mycelium." -- Source.
CaCO3 + CO2 + H2O → Ca(HCO3)2 -- Source.
----
Here I put a 2 year old spent cake into CaCO3 water, it removed waste and re-grew. Normally outdoors, the mycelium would benefit from rain and drainage.

----
Is this info a sufficient explanation?

Certain active species I’ve looked up have used rgs so i just want some for myself
Think of rgs as a tiny grain. All traditional grains are just grass seeds bred to be large for thousands of years

No problem, for anyone who make cakes, or dunk in general, you should benefit from and nice pH 7.5-8.0 dunk. The mycelium will expel CO2, making soluble bicarbonate from CaCO3, and remove waste.
Mycelium will also use the bicarbonate as a carbon source (agar tested).

TheBlackcat, I'm interested in a site like that. I'm not exactly sure how to use the site though... sometimes when looking up a research paper you're required to pay to read it or have access. Is this a way to unlock those research papers? The site you linked to says enter a URL or DOI. Thanks

there is something i don't understand about trait selection. just because mycelium grows fast does not mean it produces many fruits? And likewise both the latter could be the case and shrooms could be weakish?
So ultimately I'm looking for 3 valued traits together... aggressive mycelium, strong fruiting production, and drug content... I'm guessing there is no 1 key pivotal observance for identification and isolation... so what are the simple actions with descriptions that will allow me to get all 3?
Also, another thing i don't understand. how many different genetics are in one plate that's ready to be transferred to grain?
and if one plate is used to spawn and applied to a FC do each one of the shrooms it produces have the same, or different genetics? if different, does each shroom have 1 set of genetics, or multiple, but similar?
and lastly, are these the right questions to ask in order to start selecting for traits?

You test for those traits keep the ones with them. You cant see traits by looking at mycelium besides mycelium growth speed(on what its growing on)

I would focus first on clean growth, then cloning for cluster density and size of fruit. After you clean up said clones you can test them (keep the culture in agar aswell) and if they grow potent shrooms then I would start trying to isolate that clone. Once I have a good fruiting potent clone to work on isolating I will then start working toward isolation based on speed of growth.
Is that a good way to go about, it bod? Or is the variety of genes too great for a clone test to be the same as a plate made from the same doner plate

Correct, that site is for piracy of journal articles. When you find an article/paper you want to read that is paywalled, look for its permanent link or identification number, then enter that into sci-hub.
As an example, let's say we wish to read the paywalled article "Structures, biological activities, and industrial applications of the polysaccharides from Hericium erinaceus (Lion’s Mane) mushroom: A review" from the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, found here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0141813016316671
By entering the perma-link (as outlined in this screenshot) into the sci-hub search bar, we are given the entire paper. You may also search by exact title of the article, or PubMed ID.

I was attempting to get my first mono Spawned and one of the five tammed out on me. Is 4qts as of spawn enough for a whole brick of coir?

Should be if they're full qts...I know I only fill my jars 2/3 full and it takes about 3 jars of spawn to equal 2qts...

Ferather hope you dont mind brother. Im on the way for storage of ganoderma and cubes. Im thinkering if we could use several colonized toothpicks directly to a testtube for long term storage. Then in to the fridge they go?
Hopefully cubes can also colonize toothpicks.
