I'm not sure dude. I treat mine the same as you; misting when dry, dub tubbed, some cased some not. Sometimes they still like the side better. I'm about to start using liners to get more consistent.
Looks like a nice number of knots on the top, maybe future flushes will be little better for you?

flyhighfunguy said: What size holes did you use for that 2.5 qt mini mono? And Was it pretty low maintenance like a regular mono? I work from 9-3 usually so I need something that could go at least 6 hours without a misting (my house is around 29% humidity). I'm thinking about trying out 1 cake to 1 pint coir.
The holes in the 2.5qt: This one had an single 1 1/4" lower hole on 2 sides. And the top holes were 3/4' and a couple qtr inch holes beside it.
This one was two 3/4" lower holes on 2 sides and 1 1/4" top holes.
Pretty much low maintenance, but the little ones seem to dry out faster.I work 10hr days and usually mist just once a day if needed,so you should be ok.

Alright I may try out the one with the two bottom holes and 1 up top.
I saw a post today where someone said they didn't even modify their 2.5 quart at all, and just treated it like a shoebox. Is there a major benefit to making it a mini mono like you did you think or would I be fine trying it out unmodified? If it gets enough FAE with being unmodified I'd think extra holes would make it dry out super quick right?

I actually bought a couple more of the 2.5qt over the weekend to try unmodified.

Maybe I'll try that then. It seems like there's a gap all the way around the lid like with a shoebox so I'm thinking it should work.
I wasn't able to find the exact one that you have tho, would this still be a small enough size for just one cake you think?

You may have to pop the lid When fruiting if they get too tall, but yea that should work.

Yea i was worried about them getting too tall, because you can't dub tub it due to the holes that the latches create. What do you mean mean by pop the lid? Unlatch it? Would that allow the mushrooms to push up the lid or something?

Yea,something that I have done. They will push it up.
Or anything that will provide humidity.I've used a grocery bag before.

Oh wow that's pretty cool I didn't know they could push the lid up like that. If they get too tall that's what Ill do.
I'm gonna get it going this Friday and I'll keep a log of it on here. Thanks for the help

Go for the deeper tubs. then you can just make them into mini monos vs shoeboxing them. I use the 32 quarts and 28 quart style tubs.

I'm only doing this because I have one extra cake tho so this is the best size I could find for something this small. All my other cakes went into 6 quart shoeboxes this week.

Will adding just one half pint cake to a quart brf sub be beneficial for a larger single cake grow or bust?

I'm not sure I completely understand the question, but if your asking is one cake enough spawn for one qt of bulk sub(coir/verm),then yes. That would be a 1:4 ratio, although I prefer something like 1:2.As far as yield,IME I yield more by bulk subbing a single cake than I would if I fruited the same cake as a cake.

It seems to be working for me.
I keep prepping too much coir. Not used to its ratio after it expands.

Sounds good enough for me to try!
