@voodoochild1000 To me spawning on 3/9 and already fruiting is fast.Mine usually take around 14 to 21 days to pin.Maybe just wait those other tubs out a little longer. As far as misting,I mist MAYBE once a day.Just a light coat at that.Your surfaces look good tho.Have you read this surface conditions thread? Proper Surface Moisture / When to Increase FAE It may have the info you need,as I'm still working on getting my surface conditions down.

Not necessary a sour smell. Almost like plastic haha it's hard to describe. Here's a picture before I misted it yesterday.

I'm birthing my cakes right now and even after rinsing it looks like some of the dry verm is stuck to the top. Is this ok?

Yea,some sticks to mine too.You could try to rub it a little during rinsing, but it'll be fine there.

Alright sweet. I just ripped one in half to check the center, and I can't quite tell if it's fully colonized or not.
Hiw does this look to you? is it supposed to still feel kinda mushy when you grate it?

Mine are usually more firm, kinda spongy. Not really mushy or wet inside. The first pic almost seems not quite done, the others look ok.I use the fine grade vermiculite tho,and the shorter wide mouth half pint jars,so things don't look the same to me when I crack one open. My fully colonized cakes after rinsing:

Maybe someone elses eyes could give some input?

Damn yea mine doesn't look like that shredded up. Maybe its cause i used really small holes?
It was definitely kinda spongy/mushy, as you can see in the pic it kinda spread onto the grater. I really hope they are ok.

They seemed to colonize very nicely and i thought they looked pretty good, that would be such a bummer.

The cakes look good.Like I said, things look different than how I do it,(I use bigger grater holes)but it should be ok to spawn.

Alright sweet thanks guys. Just finished spawning all the tubs so I guess we'll know pretty soon if they were alright or not. They definitely stunk like mushrooms and looked great, it's just that little bit of a mushyness and the appearance on the inside that's throwing me off. I'll keep a log going on this thread if all goes well.

In regards to my previous post...
My humidity is in mid to low 30s...
I'm misting when I see surface moisture gone...once in morning...once at night....

I like to mist 1-2 times a day when it's evaporated if not using casing.
Only thing I notice is you said some are PE? They usually take a little longer to get pinning than other cubes. This might be causing the extra time. I also see a lot that they do better with a casing than without.
Were these MS? I just noticed your pinned tub is PE. Sometimes things just take a little longer. Your tubs pics look fine.

I'm currently misting once in the morning and once at night when it looks like it's evaporated off definitely trying not to overdo it and cause any pooling or Mist on top of already damp substrate. And yes I've heard it takes a little longer or so hopefully everything's cool I'll just give it some more time and see what happens. Noticing several pins on another one of my 3/9 tubs...
...thanks!

Hey Nate, nice write up!
I’m going to be starting some shoeboxes soon with 10 PB and 11 TC half pints. Was wondering if it would be okay to have one of my shoeboxes be both strains combined into one. Also wondering how much a casing layer benifets brf bulk grows and if gypsum is benifecial in the mix.
Can’t wait to try my hands at bulk this grow!

combining strains is fine but they may grow at different rates. i find myself a pseudo casing is good helps with keeping the substrate moisturized for me. gypsum I used once did not see a difference but others might have a different opinion.

How long ago was that spawned?
And do you guys think 5 cakes would be too much for one 6 quart shoebox? I was only planning on doing 4 cakes and 2 quarts CVG but there's an extra cake.
