So I'm getting a shitload of side pins and I'm just wondering if these fruit are going to be f***** cuz they're all squished up against the sides.. I really want to eat them LOL!:vibin:

I've been keeping the top moist and is it going to be a problem if the existing mushrooms get missed it a little bit in the process of misting the substrate?

Am I going to lose those side fruits or should I take it out and put it in a larger monotub on some tinfoil or something?

You won't lose the fruits. You may have to get creative when it comes time to harvest them, but side fruits are still fruits. Most of the time they grow their way up,but I've had to reach down the side of/tip the sub to pluck 'em on occasion.
This box was almost nothing but side pins and edge fruiting.

So it's been 2 weeks since spawn and one of my boxes has a bunch of side pins going but I don't see anything in the other four boxes. Am I being impatient or is something off? I've been monitoring my Surface moisture and such just wondering what my expectations should be as far as how long it takes to see fruits. Is my one box just kind of fast and the other ones should hopefully kick in soon? About how long to see fruits or penis envy?

They look good.My tubs and boxes usually take around 21 days to fruit, but it can vary. From what I hear PE can take a bit longer to pin.Nice to know you've got PE going!I've got 32 cakes of them in various stages coming soon.:awesomenod:

Some things to add in answer to a few questions on this thread:

  • BRF Cake Colonisation : Wait for your cakes to fully colonize, I usually birth one day after full colonization to ensure center is colonised.
  • BRF Cake Colonisation CHECK : Before you break up/grate your brf cake, split them in two to make sure the center is colonized, if it's not, gently cut out the bits that aren't colonized if there are any. If you bulk spawn uncolonized BRF cake, it could lead to contamination and ruin your grow.
  • Use a DOUBLE liner if using a shoebox : Liners are great, they reduce sidepins but a double liner will allow you to lift your sub out of your container for harvest without it breaking. This makes harvesting a breeze. Probably more suitable for smaller monos or shoeboxes.

Peace

My minitubs contammed.
I think the long colonization period was due to a lack of moisture, as well as GE lesson learned. Round two has begun, more moisture. Might've loaded the tub with a bit too much sub.

Made too much coir and didnt want to waste it.
It could go horribly wrong. We'll see.

At work or id post pics.
Half pint burma spawned to a 2.5qt tub.
Poured the sub in first, filled it about halfway. Thought fuck it and shredded my cake to it.
I'll see if I can get a pic of it.

This thread is why I got those tubs actually. Just prepping for large scale. If I cant do small scale I doubt I can do large
Less waste if/when I fail.

Mushroomnate - In your post it looks like you used a liner in some of your tubs and no liner in others. Have you seen any major differences when using and not using one?

So far I haven't seen a major difference other than less side pins on the first flush. The liner can be a pain for me to get right, especially in the smaller tubs. There's not alot of room to maneuver to trim it and to get the corners to stay down.My current projects are all liner-less.

I went liner less for now also seems I actually get more because of the extra side pins.

So.... I'm still kind of confused on whether to mist or not to mist because I've gotten contradictory information from multiple sources...

I have for tubs that I spawned on 3 / 9 and one of them has a bunch of growth and side pins Etc. but the other three have nothing yet... and I have one of my tubs that I spawned on 3/13 that's starting to have pins and I just don't understand why I have the one tub starting hella early and the others have nothing and the one that I did later is the Second tub to show pins ..what gives?

I guess I'm just expecting things to happen about the same time or am I being impatient or is that just how it goes? I just want to figure out if I'm doing something wrong so I can fix the problem immediately before more time goes by...

My main question is am I misting it too much and not allowing time for evaporation to happen or should I keep missing it multiple times a day and keep a constant layer of microbeads on the surface of the substrate?

most people say to keep it constantly moist but I've had a couple people say to give it time to dry in between mistings.... I just really want to come to a conclusion on how to approach it and follow through with that technique...any ideas?

Spawned 3/9

Spawned 3/13

.. so I missed it this morning about 9 to 10 hours ago. I guess my question is should I miss them several times a day and keep the beads on the surface or should I give it time for the beads to evaporate off and then mist?

I hypothesize that the pins are growing on the side because of the water that falls down the side of the tub and it's creating a strong up flow of evaporation along that narrow space between the substrate and the sidewall... if that's true then I feel like maybe I need to mist it more and create more of that evaporation flow on the surface but if anybody has any ideas let me know:llamastare:

Does this look okay? It smells a little off.

Spawned 7 days ago with a light casing layer. 60:40 coir/verm. Did a light misting yesterday
