What did you use as a casing layer?

I put a light layer of coir/verm on top when I spawned.Sometimes I go without, but my space has been real dry lately.

This is great! Since I don't have a pc atm, I am going this route for the 7 b+ cakes I have consolidating now. What size minis do are you using ? Is that a 20qt that you spawned 4 cakes in?

I like to spawn 4 cakes to 2qt coir/verm in my 7.2qt mono.

Gives me about 3" sub depth and just barely enough room for the fruits.

I have a 27qt mono in progress that had 8 cakes spawned to about 5qt coir/verm.I like the 1:2 ratio.

Just spawned 8 brf to 5qt cv. I'm trying the unmodified 27qt sterlite. My next 8 brf will be ready in about 2 weeks and I'll try a 27qt classic mono tub for that one! Also had a single cake to 1/2 qt cv. Trying soda bottle mono.

Here's a single cake spawned to 2 parts coir/verm.Different container, but still hit the 70g wet per cake spawned mark. :super:

As far as yield,my first flush usually averages about 70gm wet per half pint cake. Also,My contam rate is pretty non-existant with the coir/verm substrate.

:cookiemonster:This

My average is also around 70g wet per spawned cake, but fruited as cakes inside a SGFC and my yield is cut in half if not more. Also I have never seen any type of mold or visible contams in my BRF bulk substrates. They usually go 2 or more flushes and get spent before anything starts to look or smell off.

Had cakes in a sgfc for the last week. Can i break them up now or at anytime??

You can still spawn them to bulk if you want to. The yield just may not be really high, but I have done it before.

Normally I wouldn+t advise spawning cakec from the SGFC but if they´ve been in there for less than a week why not.
Don´t expect stellar performance but you could possibly harvest more by spawning then leting them fruit inside the SGFC

Thanks!
I would agree. The cakes should be ok to spawn if they havent started pinning yet,but I have no experience with that and I would be worried of a contamination factor. But,maybe with a good rinse and shred, could be worth it.

Did you case with vermiculite or coir, or a mix?

For the 7.2 quart tub do you still do the same hole configuration as the larger mini monos (Four 1.25 inch holes, with 1 layer Micropore on top and 2 layers on bottom) ?

Nice!I need to get some "normal" cubes going.I've seen alot of the shoeboxes here lately,so I had to start one myself.4 cakes to 2qt CV.It's so easy to get overwhelmed with projects in this hobby. It's fun to be back!

Yes,but over this winter I found myself adding an extra layer from time to time. It's been pretty dry here.

Alright sweet.

If i only have like 10-12 half pint cakes would you recommend doing a couple mini monos like that one, or a few shoeboxes? I want whatever will be the easiest for right now because im a complete beginner.

Just observe the substrate as you are adding and removing strips of tape.
The evaporation of the sub will be your gauge.

Shoeboxes or mini monos are what you want. Both work equally good, or unmodified smaller tubs.
You can fruit this bulk substrate in with many different tub setups. :super:

:whathesaid:
They will grow in anything really.
I like the smaller "mono" looking tubs personally, only they like to get dry faster so more tape or misting as needed.

You spawned that tub only 2 days ago, you can at least count on another 10 days before pinning starts.
I usually up the FAE at day 7-9, nothing exciting is gonna happen before that anyway

Yea,give it another 7-10 days before fruiting.I usually wait 14 days from spawn unless I see pins early.Your tub looks good tho.Fast colonization.
