At the last minute I elected not to use a grain jar because it smelled off. I've done some searches on a 1/4 ratio and people complain of slow colonization and contaimination. Some have used a 1/10 ratio and been fine. My question (even though it's already been done and no changing it) is, If the sub was properly pasteurized and colonized grain smell good are their negative consequences to this low of a grain to sub ratio?
It's fine the diff is only a couple days conizing time

You can avoid this by waiting longer to induce fruiting conditions and then casing, IME.

Otherwise, yeah, tons of tiny fruits. Harvesting them is annoying, but they're strong and make for great powder mix. I'll dump all shake, tiny fruits and aborts into a single jar and then grind them for chocolates.

Does anyone know if the PH value of cakes is important in aspects regarding germination and growth rate. ? I want to know because my cakes have been acting up lately. Cant seem to get them to grow right and germinate. I used coffee as well in this batch (liquid), ive understood it can be a vector for contamination but thing is Ive used it many times before and never had an issue.
What is the adviced PH for PF substrate?

I’ll definitely keep that in mind. These did pin quite a bit quicker than usual.

Have you cased any of those awesome Ape tubs you’ve posted in the past Germs? Do you let the spawn and tubs consolidate a little before spawning and fruiting?
I swiped a plate with an apeu swab yesterday

Thanks man, I’m actually looking forward to it, been awhile since I sampled some APE. Last time I (mistakingly) gave the whole harvest to a friend for a birthday gift without keeping any personal. They said they thoroughly enjoyed it though so it was worth it

I have cased a few in the past and got comparable results without casing but looking back I think it’s because I spawned with a thicker top layer of bulk sub on the “uncased” tubs. I do let the spawn consolidate a week which seems to keep from blobs, which I’ve never really experienced.
APEU looks badass! I’ll be on the lookout for your progress

With a 1 to 4 ratio, bulk to grain in a monotub, and temperatures in the room at 67 degrees. I have the tub near a window letting filtered light through, so there's some thermal heat. Does anyone have an tips for this potentially slow colonization?

So I have a jar full of extra agar mix I made about a month ago that's completely frozen in the freezer, would it be safe to thaw in the microwave or should I give it a hot water bath?4

A microwave will potentially be slow enough to keep the glass from breaking. But I would let it thaw a bit first so the ice isn't right on the glass

Extra grainwater, yes, extra agar that's been sterilized n everything? I don't know. Could be, just never tried. Somehow it seems to me that the freezing would destroy the agar's setting ability, but I could very well be completely wrong. Let us know how it works out!
