29qt Monotub - Lizard King (Grow Log) 1

Hey everyone, just wanted to throw out an update. I have 3qts of WBS spawned to 6qts of C/V in this mini mono.
I liked the convenience of Bodhisatta's unmodified tub tek and decided to go against my conventional monotub style to see if I like this more or less. Also, it would save a lot more time and preparation, which I also see as advantages to a busy schedule.
In the Tek it was stated that Bod flips the lid 80% of the way through colonization to the end of the first flush.
I just wanted to get everyone's advice to see if this is at about 80% colonized before following through with flipping the lid. I only have two small gaps on my tub on the "width" sides and it seems like it would be ok.
Here's a pic of the tub (and sorry for the lack of quality) :

You can flip the lid, pinning will begin when the substrate has consolidated and when the culture feels the conditions are right.

Sweet! Thanks for the reply. I just needed a little confidence to do so... typically because I rarely open the lid this early in the process. I usually wait even a couple days after full colonization.
Thanks!

You can even flip the lid as soon as you spawn the tub, or you can wait until you see pins. It´s up to you. I would recomment flipping the lid upon full colonization, because the substrate wont pin before full colonization anyway and it only risks of drying out sooner if fruited earlier but no real reward for it since you won´t et fruits much earlier doing that anyway

Update 2/5/2018:
Pins everywhere. I should have used coir as a casing, but oh well, verm seems to do fine. Just a lot of mess.
Turned the tub into a mono. Just opened up the top two holes completely.

02/09/2018 - Another update before I went to bed. Things are looking great. I originally took polyfil out of the top holes but put MORE than I had before back in. The higher humidity really seemed to help along with a little bit of bottom water feeding.
After seeing this however, I took one of the top holes polyfil out. Also, I bought a ultrasonic humidifier and seems to be making a world of difference for this dry ass environment.
There are a handful of side pins, but not too much, which I'm quite happy about. My biggest fruit actually looks to have stemmed from the side but the rest on top of the sub look quite happy. Some massive clusters in here - all from MS. Plan on picking a few in the morning and putting to agar for cloning.
Thanks for stopping by fellow mycoNERDS.

So I harvested this below plus an additional oz for chocolates I made. Had a trip party last night and still have half the chocolates plus the pics below:
Lizard King is nice IME. Quite strong.. Heavy almost.

This tub is still going. However, before I spawned to the tub, I did a few G2G transfers to keep the Lizard King going.
I put 4qts of birdseed spawn to 4qts of C/V from the original bucket. This one brick of coir has literally lasted me three different tubs as I just made a dub tub last night for Golden Teachers as well. (**More on that to come**)
So with this new batch, I used an old mono I had laying around. The substrate depth was absolutely perfect for me at about 4.5". When I spawned, I used Bod's recommendation to use a pseudocasing of coir (although not necessary - I just happen to have a drier climate). I feel like the top coir layer provided a nice microclimate as I also fruited earlier (which is something I have never tried).
To my surprise, it is pin city up in this bitch! Clusters are literally crawling on top of each other. And even in a few small spots with little pins, it looks like at any point in time it could just explode with more.
I'm hoping to get 3-4oz minimum on this first flush. These pins are just taking a good while to get bigger and seems a little slow. Overall I'm excited and just testing my patience once again.
Thanks for stopping by.

Why did you turn it into a mono? Was the unmodified to working right? Was hoping to see how the unmodified worked out.

Right? Thank you! I'm hella excited. Haven't had a tub with this kind of pinset in a while.

This tub that I just showed is an old mono I had laying around. The original Lizard King tub from my OP was turned into a mono because I figured I wasn't getting any pins. Part of the problem for me was the dry climate and lack of humidity. The sub seemed to dry out so fast that I was misting literally every couple hours. There wasn't much of a microclimate at the surface, especially for how this house was laid out, and the monotub just seemed to produce faster and better results.
I still will be trying to do an unmodified mono. I am actually moving into a much bigger house very soon, so I'm super excited for the additional space and can already tell from the feeling of the draft in the new house that an unmodified tub will work great there. Also, I have an ultrasonic humidifier that has been doing wonders in the grow area and contributed to these nice pinsets I'm having now.

Thank you! So do you think I should bottom water just to supply enough moisture to allow all of these pins to fruit? I'm genuinely interested to know why it would be best, but I did kind of guess that I may have to resort to bottom watering just from the sheer mass of pins that have come up.

Part of that is my fault - used a phone camera and the quality is "knot" that great! Ha. Fail.
Yeah, there's just a ton of pins in here through. Fat clusters, especially in the middle. This is definitely going to be a canopy! I'll post more results as they get closer to harvest.

Thank you everyone! I woke up this morning and they are even bigger (of course). I can't wait to post pics here soon before I pick them. Should only be a day or two. Thank you for all the support!
If you have any questions or would like to trade, please feel free to PM at some point. Cheers!

If 50% of those fruits come to mature and grow up then you got yourself a full flush but realistically I think that the sub is a bit to shallow to support that kind of flush to maturity. I hope I´m wrong tho
