Transferring pieces of agar

So I did a bunch of agar transfers yesterday, and I ran into an issue with the chunks of agar I was transferring sticking to my exacto blade. It was frustrating because I didn't want to make any sudden movements with the blade, compromising the SAB, in order to knock it off. But a couple of times it's basically what I had to do.
What do you guys do when the agar transfer you're making sticks to your blade/tool?

Rotate the handle so the wedge pops off
And using new blades often

New blades definitely help, especially if you store them tip down in a jar of alcohol. The tip can roll over and make a hook that makes clean transfers almost impossible.

Yeah I've been having the same issue, sometimes I just press the scalpel a little into the new plate to knock off the wedge

Looking through the links but haven't found it yet.
About to go check on my plates. Hoping they aren't total goners.

What I want to know is agar to grain. That fucking wedge always seems to want to go somewhere where I don't want it to go.

In the process of trying to get the wedge off of the scalpel, it will somehow end up on the top part of the jar on the glass.
Not all the time, but enough to be annoying.

i did about 18 transfers last night and i noticed that too, some of them didnt wanna come off at all, the twisting works good, infact thats basically what i had to do, if the wedge isnt too big and on the tip of the blade i find i can dip the scalpel into the new plate and it is almost always a clean transfer.
also i did it very patiently and found that on most, the wetness from the new plate if done slowly will kinda suction cup the new wedge, one done i removed the tool slowly n it stuck right in place

It seems to vary a lot depending on the nature of the agar (ie very firm or very soft). Stickier agar has given me more troubles. To grain or akes, not so much, but A2A definitely can be frustrating. New blades is a good call, I would think... I'll have to do that.

I like firmer agar for that reason. I’ll only pour softer plates for germinating spores. Or maybe if I wanted to make a LI but I’ve only been doing A2G’s for a while now.

Thumbs up to this!
I definitely like firmer agar, besides germ plates. I've found it fairly adequate for LI as well. The mycelium still gets shaken mostly into the water, and there are some agar chunks in it, but the agar does not seem to affect the colonization of grains so far.
Definitely easier to drop firm agar though.

I've been going with firmer agar, have yet to try softer, but I have yet to inoculate spores on agar too.
In otherness, all my transfer are clean except my wild oyster clones. One of the oyster clones didn't look too contaminated so I tried transferring a tiny patch of mycelium that was on the tip of the original clone tissue since the base had bacterial growth around certain parts of it. I tried the twist to get the tissue off and it worked wonderfully! Thanks for the advice guys.
