Is this San Pedro, or an imposter?

This is the only pic I could grab, I know it's not great but I'll try to grab some more tonight. I'm mostly curious if the stem is consistent with how a San Pedro is supposed to look. I know that if it is branching out from a singular trunk type growth then it's not San Pedro. What do you guys think?

Looks way more like a Cereus which is not active but puts out some tasty fruits. I'll check again when you find a better picture.

I think you may be right. I noticed the ribs don't bulge like cereus and are coming out to a point. Or some other form or stenocereus with short spines.

The way it looks if we would have told him yes he would have hacked off an arm. Just buy a piece. Hell I'd give you a piece if it kept you from cutting in someone's cactus. People...

Don't worry. If it were an active cactus people would be letting him know what's up. Thread's like this can be quite amusing and informative for the OP.

Much agreed! I've always loved reading these types of threads. People start off helpful then become brutal.
Hell I'd give a cut of one of mine to keep thefts at bay too.

Dang man sorry you've had so many bad experiences with people stealing cactus. I was asking to get an idea of what a San Pedro looks like in person. Only an idiot would vandalize/steal a piece of University property in plain sight of any campus police and/or security cameras to see. I never even implied that I intended on stealing this cactus or a part of it.
Thanks for the help anyway though

No one said you were going to steal it, and I only implied that you shouldn't...just in case you were considering it. Glad to hear otherwise though.

I know you weren't, but pinedownpioneer insinuated it rather strongly. My post was in response to him mostly.

Was he completely wrong though? I mean, your posts suggested that you were planning on going back, and that "the hunt continues". A lot of people come through here with posts exactly like yours, that are in fact attempting to poach cactus. Please don't take it personally, we're just sensitive about it.

If you do find a Tricho (especially in Cali) it's more than likely going to be a PC pach. If you're interested in a cut of whatever you find Jut knock on the persons door and ask for one. 9 times out of 10 they'll let you take a cut

Also you could offer them $5 and you know they'll oblige. Keep on keeping on Homie.

Yeah he was completely wrong. Hunt can be used colloquially as "search" and that cactus is on my college campus so I'm always "going back". I was at a stop sign so I couldn't get out to get a good pic but I would have been able to go get more pics if it had a chance of being what I was looking for. I understand your perspective and it sucks that people do shitty things but jumping to conclusions like he did is unnecessary.

For sure, I'd be more than happy to pay the fair amount for someone's personal property. Im really just trying to get a good idea of what to look for in person. This thread really did help a lot as now I know that this species of cactus isn't what I'm looking for and I can narrow my search down. I would have been surprised if it was because these ones are EVERYWHERE around here.
