How I store mushies

How I store mushies.Note: there shouldn't be a tek on this, But I see the question come up over and over and over. So here it is. Step 1: Dehydrate them Dehydrate till they 100% dry. I dry mine for 24 to 36 hours. The extra time doesn't hurt IME. I like to be 100% sure they are 100% cracker dry. Here is a link to mushboy's dry fruit comparison. Dry Fruit ComparisonStep 2: Storage method. Jar or Vacuum Seal BagsJar StorageSimply put, I stick them into a mason jar. No desiccants notta. Just straight into a jar with the lid on tight Vacuum SealingNow, If your going to vacuum seal them, Here is how I go about doing that. Grab your handy dandy vacuum seal bags. I have two styles, The roll style where I have to cut them to size, and the big quart ones. For this example, I will be using the roll version. As it covers the sealing process as well as bag creation. Cut off a chunk of the roll. The size will vary based on how much your going to store in them. The gold bar on this seal I have is for sealing only, not vacuuming out the air. So we need to make our first seal so we can put mushrooms in them. Place your chunk of bag on the sealer like so. Then press the spots where it says press here, until the unit's hands free fapping light turns on. Huzzah! The bottom of the bag is now made. Okay! Now that is complete, Place however much mushrooms you desire in the bag. Place the open end of the bag onto the gold strip. Holy crap! That is a looooot! Now, we need to do the same process we did with making the bottom of the bag. Okay! So Oops, My seal was fucked as you can see here. (If you don't cut the bags 100% straight you will most likely have to do this and sometimes I like to triple seal my bags.) Simply do the same process again, and you can get a cleaner seal by putting the bag further into the vacuum sealer with no worries of it sucking the air out. Bam! We have a bag that's sealed up air tight.

can you use the vacuum/impulse sealer on a regular zipbag?

Generally not, my vacuum sealer needs special bags to get a proper vac and seal. The typical plastic ziplock bags you get are too thin and will just melt.

I like to seal mine in individual doses. In this way i don't need to expose my whole stash to the air taking a dose out. Like i would if they where all in one bag. Potency loss sucks.

Dry, grind & mix into melted chocolate. They will last 5+ years in the freezer with no degradation.

How does one back up that claim? were you the one who did and sampled it or SWIY?

I don't know how well it will hold a vacuum but if you have an impulse sealer you can use it on a regular zip lock if you turn the seal timer down. I use mine to seal bags all the time.

@grainbrain are you vacuum sealing or anything? Trying to store long-term for as cheap as possible. I don't really want to buy a sealer or anything just yet. Sounds awesome AF if it works though bro.

I have that same sealer. Works great for the price. I always vac out the air when I'm sealing mine. Sucks the bag down till it's just a hard brick of shrooms. It does crush em up a bit but they take up way less space than jars and they might not oxidize as fast. Good write up!

Wrap in foil, throw them in rubbermaid/tupperware & then into the freezer.

I've always just zip lock bagged them, squeezed the air out, and put in the freezer. I don't eat them very often so, I have a little bit left from a grow I did 4-5 years ago, and as of last summer I didn't notice a loss in potency.
The other thing I did, was make a bunch of the mushrooms into "blue honey". I only refrigerated this concoction, and it was eaten well before I could determine whether or not it holds up for long term storage. But I assume it does, honey is a incredible natural preservative.

I've tried filling gallon jars and putting some holes in the lid, then putting it into large vacuum bags + sucking the air out. I wanted to get a vacuum seal without crushing them. It seemed to work but I think just using the jars suffices

I dehydrate mine and throw them in a Tight Vac container made by the Tight Pac company and throw it in the next tight vac size up with some desiccant and stored for a little over 3 years and they're still potent, maybe slight loss by not much if any, still cracker dry. Next I'm going to get a bag suck n' sealer like that just to try, do you favor one over the other? Or use both?

Wouldn’t theoretically the best way to store them be in honey? Honey doesn’t go bad unless it contaminated and it’s anti bactierial and is very good at holding alkaloids.. idk if I don’t know what I’m talking about here or if someone will join in and agree with me here haha.

They last three years at room temp or you chuck then in the freezer?

I have some from 2004-2005 dried in mason jars that I keep in a box in the closet. They are still potent.
