So, I'm currently colonizing a few wbs jars and I'm not quite sure wether or not they're ready for transfer.
These are all images of the same jar from four different sides
Any help is greatly appreciated

I'd give it at least 2-3 more days. Make sure there is no exposed grains.

The moisture up top, the uncolonized grains against the glass, and overall lack of a vibrant white color lead me to believe this jar should not he expanded via G2G.

Give it at least a few more days. For any G2G you want it to consolidate a bit. Once it’s 100% it will take another week or so to look solid dense white for a G2G You want it to look like this.
Mine looked like yours. After a week it will look like the above as long as it’s clean Then you can grain to grain.

The moisture is fine btw. After colonizing you will always have that extra water like that. The grains do look a bit clumpy tho. Are you adding gypsum to the soak water? For WBS it’s more important than for other grains cause they always want to clump together otherwise.

Looks a little sketchy from my screen, but like said above, give it a couple more days.

Is this jar recovered from a shake?

What? Absolutely not. Grain spawn should never be left to consolidate before spawning, *especially* not for G2G transfer!

Huh really?!? Can you explain the thought process behind it

One of the principle ideas behind grain spawn is to spread noc points throughout the sub. Consolidated spawn is hard to break up and will end up as bigger chunks of mycelium with fewer noc points. I would also assume that myc that has consolidated may not be as aggressive as myc that is actively feeding and searching for food....you want the hot dog eating champ during the competition, not the champ on the couch after eating 70 hot dogs...

Ok I can understand that. And actually I have had a rough time breaking up and evenly distributing spawn during G2G but my thought process was more mycelial mass. And that it would help to colonize faster. But point well taken. Perhaps I’m misinformed. Thanks for the explainatiin

Yea man use your Grain masters as soon as they're ready and don't let your spawn consolidate. I mean if you have to wait a few days for whatever reason it won't hurt but don't do it on purpose
You'll be happy how much easier it is to pour the grain too
If my grain master hasn't been left around a while and it doesn't break up easily I won't use it for G2G, most likely something bacterial going on

Thank you I’ll definitely do that for now on. Good tip there at the end too
