Question for someone experienced with green houses or marthas!! * 1
    #24919977 - 01/17/18 06:20 AM (7 years, 21 hours ago)

Ok so like the title states I would love to speak to some people who have had success with green houses/ marthas!

Here is my problem/ what I can't seem to wrap my critical thinking mind arround, how is evaporation and adequate FAE taking place inside the green house?

I see people adding fans to thier setups and setting them on timers to run for a set amount of time each 24 hour period and that's fine and dandy but... isn't that fan just recirculating the same foggy/stale air over and over again? Also in my mind it would all be situational as to how much you run your fan depending on your growing parameters.

For humidity/ misting I have a cool mist ultrasonic humidifier that can get my 3 tier gh up to 99% rh in like 20 mins or less. So in those regards how much should I be running the coolmist? I've never ran it for more then 30 mins straight so far cause it gets extremely foggy in there to the point where I can't see shit inside the tent lol. I've yet to experience pools of water on the surface of the sub but I wouldn't put it past it's capabilities in such a small space.

Also whether to leave my cool mist inside the green house or to plumb it in with 1in pvc? Same dilema with the small 6in clip fan, at the moment it's clipped to the bottom inside of the gh and pointed down at my perlite bottom layer to circulate air all arround the tent.

Any thoughts from anyone helpful on the matter would be awesome! Even if you don't have personal experience but you have a good understanding or a good idea post it up! This forum is extremely helpful 95% of the time and in doing so we are all helping to provide more people with the beautiful and humble experience that is the mushroom!!
Here are some pics pics of what I'm currently working with.

I use a floating 3 disc pond fogger in a bucket with a 4" duct fan that is always on, blowing fresh air into the GH constantly. The fogger itself is hooked to a humidity controller which kicks it on and off as the humidity drops to maintain RH without oversaturating and pooling water. It is piped into the GH with 2" PVC pipe. No exhaust on my set up -- the bottom of the GH plastic is just rolled up a bit to let air flow out.

Here are some old pics of when I first set it up...

humidity controller

I like this set up much better than vicks ultrasonic or some pre made thing because it's easy to clean and always gives FAE.

Not sure if that helps but it's a better design if you decide to change

Just speaking with someone who uses a gh with success is a huge help so thanks for your reply! Seems like not many people are rocking them anymore but if you search it on the forums they were all the craze a few years back lol.

So are you connecting your blower to the cool mist somehow and blowing fresh air that is also getting humidifier?

If your blower is constantly running even when he humidifier is off with 3in and 2in pipe that's not overkill on air flow and drying out subs?

Also that humidity controller looks like it's a plug and play one instead of having to hardwire your device into it first? I'm wondering if i could set my coolmist on a timer to achieve the same function.

Yes you could set up the cool mist on that humidity controller.

My subs never dry out - in fact the fogger is only on for a few minutes every hour & keeps 99% humidity

I have grown all kinds of stuff in there... edibles, cubes, pans, reishi... you name it

I use a 3 disc pond fogger, not a cool mist. These can be used to scale all the way up to a 30' grow room (though I wouldn't recommend it)

The fogger sits in the bucket about half full of water, and when it makes fog it fills the container up. The fan just sits over a hole in the top and pushes the fog up into the PVC since it has no where else to go.

I put my humidifier inside the GH and I have a 6" fan that force ventilates FAE. I can post pics later, but pretty much my fan is on a 3 hour delay timer going active for 30 minutes and I use 2 ultrasonics that are plugged into a humidity controller with a lower limit offset of 10%. The offset allows the GH to get nice a soggy, but also gives the GH enough time to mellow out for evaporation. I actually had some concerns getting started with GH FAE...ultimately I had to be more "persuasive" with getting the FAE inside the GH...Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies guys! Tormato why do you use 2 humidifiers? Are you running a large gh?

Also you have both of yours sitting inside the gh?

Also since we have the same fan, is yours inside or outside the gh and if it's outside how is it plumbed in??

You said you have your fan on a timer that runs for 30 mins non stop and then shuts off but for how Long?

Id really love to see pics of your setup too brother man! Would love to see it full of trays that are growing also!

I maybe am over thinking all of this I just don't wanna go through all the trouble and money for it to work like shit and me not use it.

My GH is fairly large so 2 humidifiers is more efficient.

Yes both sit inside the GH.

Fan is on the outside. I cut a hole in the side of the plastic the size of the fan and I just have the grill inside the GH with the intake on the outside. I also cut slits on the opposite side of the fan side to allow for exhaust.

My fan runs for 30 mins then off for 3 hours....I'm actually thinking about bumping it up to 4 hours off though. Been noticing the subs were getting a little drier than I like on my last few runs so instead of increasing the humidifier output I'm prolly just gonna back the fan off a bit.

I currently don't have anything growing and I'm actually doing some modification work to it, but I will post some pics that might help ya. I also have 6500K lighting that is on a 12hour timer.

They are a bit of an investment if you do it the right way, but IMO they are well worth it in bulk growing....I'm talking BULK!

No problem....keep in mind I'm remodeling it so it's not all together at the moment.

Ok so here is a view of the top rack. It's 6'x2' and those are 28qt tubs....4 per rack...2 racks in the GH.

This is a pic of the fan and ultrasonic

RH Sensor and controller

And finally timers for the lights and FAE fan. Lights are on a 12 hour cycle...12 on 12 off...6500K Florescent Bulbs.

I had a plastic cover for the front, but like I said doing some remodeling ATM.

Dope set up tormato! I'm jealous so I think what I'm going to end up doing is plumbing my cool mist into the gh from the outside and get it going on a humidity controller.

Then cut a hole in my tent and pipe in some fresh air at the bottom a few times a day to circulate the air flow and try and promote evaporation in the time frames that my cool mist is off and see how that goes!

But for now I have 3/4 of my shoeboxes pinning and 1/2 of my half pints!

Thank you! It’s my first design, but the changes I’m wanting to make are what you mentioned....at the time it was a budget setup BUT it worked beautifully! Now I’m just going for more ease of maintaining meaning yes the humidifiers are coming outside and the humidity will be pumped in, across, and above the tubs. This way the moisture falls more evenly on the substrates. :super:

I had tons of pics of the this puppy in action, but I dropped my phone in the ocean on vacation and lost all the pics

GH building can be fun and fruitful...pun intended :laugh2:

I mean that's cool and all but your using monos inside the gh which kinda defeats the purpose since the mono create it's own microclimate inside and therefore the gh isn't really making the fruits grow :/ just my thoughts on it though.

This was done for pan tropicals ...  Have you ever tried to Grow pan tropicals .... They are bored when they get wet ...so the humdity needed to be more than the tubs could do
For standard cubes I just make large cakes to sit on the wire

When your Martha starts getting green and slimy inside take all your fruits out of it and fill your humidifier with 20% bleach and let it run for a day It will sterilize the inside of your Martha again

No I'm still at the cube stage for now, my mistake. Also thanks for the tip on cleaning the thing! I was wondering about that and that sounds like a great idea.

Also how long are you having your fan run for and how many times a day? Same question with your humidifier, also do you have a humidity controller or just on a timer?

That is for the fan the time of the humidifier will also change depending on what type and how much you have

I just watch how the sub is doing and make adjustments based on what I see. Eventually you'll get it dialed in, but even at that some tweaking can still take place.
