A checkup on my tub
    #24917676 - 01/16/18 07:54 AM (7 years, 1 day ago)

Just wondering how it's looking to everyone else. Looks ok to me. Side pins like crazy but the top finally pinned too so happy about that.

Noticing the bottoms are quite fuzzy on the more developed pins. I believe this is just due to lack of adequate FAE. Strange because this is an unmodded tub, but I don't think it's the end of the world.

Anyone else had a tub act like this?

Also, I've read conflicting information....should I still be misting to keep surface moisture as it was prior to the pin set?

If it's an unmodified tub wouldn't you expect there to be a lack of FAE? There would be no holes for FAE. You should definitely fix that or you're hurting your yield.

This is my first grow so I dont expect anything. I'm just following proven methods and making inferences along the way.

More fae than a hole stuffed mono is likely.

There's a whole bunch of  fae in an unmodded tub bro.

Relative to no FAE, sure, but compared to a tub with holes there's obviously going to be less. His fruits clearly need more FAE than they're getting. It's not rocket science.

A liner will eliminate side pins...... I use an ohmatic style monotub, with polystuffed holes, and I like it!

I like the idea of an unmodified monotub, because having tubs with holes cut in them laying around is a little strange, but I have never used anything other than a polyfilled tub.

To me the little bit of extra labor involved in making the tubs is worth it.

I've had fuzzy stems on open air fruits and clean stems on in-vitro bag  fruits

That substrate looks pretty wet tho

No, unmodified tubs are a great way to grow. I use regular monos with holes, because I have about 50 of them.

I don't doubt that, that's why I didn't disagree or otherwise feel Bhodis comment warranted a response, but per the pictures (really just 2nd one) and OPs own observations/intuition it's hard to dispute it lacks FAE. Flipping a lid upside down may increase FAE over being closed, but you can't really argue a tub with holes in it has more FAE than one without. If OP is following Bhodi's tek and doesn't want to cut holes then maybe slant the lid at a slight angle but it seems fairly obvious that it wants more FAE. Is anyone really questioning that or are you guys just nit picking over theory irrespective of the post/grow in question? I'm not arguing holes are the only way to provide FAE, I'm just saying OP could benefit if he provided more.

"Relative to no FAE, sure, but compared to a tub with holes there's obviously going to be less. "

No, just this statement. Not talking about the OP's picture.
In a monotub with holes we restrict the FAE with polyfil.
In an unmodified lid, FAE is restricted by the upside down lid.
We loosen the poly to increase FAE, we crack the lid to increase FAE. In a tub with real tight poly you could very well be getting much more FAE with just the lid flipped upside down.

You can get the same amount of FAE or more with an unmodified tub as a tub with holes.

Oh, okay, I get what you're saying now. "Unmodified tub" is not literally an unmodified tub (as it seems in my mind anyway) but a tub with its lid turned upside down . I did not make that connection until now.

Hahaha yea. I would probably go that way myself since having a zillion tubs with holes in the attic is pretty damning evidence , but I already have em. That and I like to stack my tubs and move them around, I don't think unmodified tubs stack without shelving. Do they?

Really? I've been under the impression its been dry the whole time. I guess I'll crack the lid a bit and see how it reacts

My bad,I thought the idea of an unmodified tub was (mostly) common knowledge.

They will stack. I only have 2 going, but they'll fit nicely into each other or you can alternate them by 90 degrees.
