First time grower hoping for some help from the experts
    #24918583 - 01/16/18 03:25 PM (7 years, 1 day ago)

Hey guys, first time grower and first time poster here.

My cakes have been in my SGFC for 10 days now and I’ve not had a ton of progress. A few days (3?) after I started fruiting, all of the cakes developed this fluffy white material that may be mycelium(?) around the bases. I’m not sure. I’ve attached a picture for you guys to check out. I mist/fan 5 times a day, 70 degree F room temp, adequate sunlight in the day, elevated SGFC. P.C. Cambodian.

I have a few small pins on all of my cakes and one massive pin on one of the them. I’ve read a lot of threads urging people to be patient but I wanted to consult the experts and make sure everything is going according to plan and this white stuff around the bases is okay.

Please let me know if I've left any crucial info out and thanks in advance. I've learned a ton from you guys browsing other threads over the past couple of months leading up to this.

Setup:

Pins:

Better look at fuzzy white stuff:

That doesn’t look good at all..

How did you inoculate? And did you consolidate for a week after 100% visible colonization?

I used a brown rice flour and verm substrate to inoculate. They had 5 days to consolidate after full colonization

That would be the substrate you are describing, inoculate is what you used to introduce the spores or culture into the substrate. Did you inoculate using a syringe containing spore solution?

Also it looks like you have them in a shotgun fruiting chamber. Is there 4-5 inches of damp perlite and 1/4 inch holes spaced out in a 2 x 2 inch grid on all 6 sides?

Yes, I used a spore syringe.

And yes I have 4 inches of soaked perlite and holes on all six sides. It's elevated off the table it's resting on as well.

Idk man, maybe wait for someone else to chime in but that white shit at the bottom doesn’t look like regular cubensis mycelium (which is what I’m assuming you are cultivating)

Almost looks like mycogone or wet bubble.

Other than that sounds like you’re doing everything right. You don’t really need to fan though. The SGFC is automatically doing the fanning for you

That is definitely not mycelium.  I would say that's heavily bacterial.

Heavily bacterial was my first thought as well but there is definitely some sort of mycelium there as you can see the pins starting to show. Whatever it is you have there is growing in tandem with the mushrooms

I've never seen cakes like that

Strange how it's only around the bottoms.

I did see a pin though...

Mycogone?

Well I would defintely trim the foil back to be solely under the cake, having it like that allows water to pool which could make it easier for nasty stuff to accumulate down there
