Is old Coir Still Usable?
    #24916808 - 01/15/18 07:55 PM (7 years, 2 days ago)

When I spawn to bulk I use Damion5050's Coir Tek

I had some left over in a bucket that I forgot about for about a month.

The bucket had the lid on the entire time.

Was wondering when I go to cook up another brick of coir can I just drop it in the bucket with the old stuff ?

at first i thought it said "is cold coir still usable"

yes and yes. i grew about 10 tubs with non heat treated coir and it worked out great. in fact, the fruits and flushes were a little better than the heat treated. but they grew in much slower.

Make sure there's no contamination break outs on the old coir before mixing with the new.  If there isn't any contams, then like the guys said, it'll be fine.

Coir will last upwards of a month ime, I tend to go no more than 2 weeks maybe to be safe, but after 2-3 months it will start to have some sort of growth going as as noted by a change in smell.

I had coir sitting in a bucket for over 2 months and I still used it and everything was fine.

What about the moisture content ?

Keeping it in a bucket with a lid keep the same moisture content as before?

I already used some today for a couple shoeboxes.

Looking to make more in a few days.

It should, I have never noticed a difference. As long as the bucket is sealed it can't really respire and lose moisture.
