How does this top fruiting jar look?
    #24911771 - 01/13/18 07:24 PM (7 years, 4 days ago)

Hi everyone, about 5 days ago i cased a bacterial cubensis jar with about 1.5 inches of CVG and then gave it a light misting before placing a ziplock bag ontop, and since then have done nothing.

As of about 2 days ago i have been able to see a small spot of mycelium poking out the top, however since then it hasn't seemed to do much.

Can you guys tell me what you think of this jars progress for 5 days in? I've never done anything like this before so i have no clue.

I can add more pics a little later tonight if you guys think that would be helpful.

Thanks

Surface looks kinda dry to me..... I would mist it lightly a couple of times over an hour or so to get some moisture in there.  Like mist lightly once, wait a half hour, then mist it again type thing.... Don't over mist, no pooling water..  Also I use bottled water, or distilled.... Some will tell you tap is fine but it can be slightly chlorinated.

Alright sweet, ill give it a misting woth some of the RO water from my sink. Do you think two misting over an hour is enough? Or is there something I should be looking for to know it's moist enough?

Do you think this will speed up the colonization?

Yes it will definitely speed it up.... If it's too dry myc can't grow.  It's just like me and you, it's needs a drink now and then.

Two light mistings in an hour is a good baseline I think.... I say that because with a top fruiting jar one spray too many might be a little too much water at that moment, but an hour later or two  another light misting may be needed.  You want it to stay damp, at "field capacity" but not wet.... Ya know what I mean?  Ya kinda gotta get a feel for it, look at the sides of the jar after you mist to see if it looks like enough, because you definitely don't want to spray too much.

And I would not use tap water, not mine anyway cuz it's been lightly chlorinated..... Some people use their tap water without problems I hear, but to me it's worth spending a dollar a gallon for a jug of distilled!  IMO

Chlorinated water is not good for myc, I don't think they like it anyway!!

Sweet ill go mist right now then.

Do you think i should directly mist it or mist above it and let it fall on it? Theres a small spot of myc popping through the top if that makes a difference.

Edit: And yea i didnt mean tap water, i have a faucet in my sink that is reverse osmosis water from our well. Is that fine you think?

Yeah that filter will keep ya covered.... No, don't spray it too directly or forcefully..... Be gentle with it, lol.  Yes, you want it to kinda fall on it so spray from above...

I gave it 3 light misting last night and visually I think it still looks pretty much the same.

Do you think I should mist  some more? I gave it  a few light mists from above the jar each time.
