First time doing this in like 6 years. Inoculated on Jan 8. This is first sign of colonization in one of the jars and am seeing this dark rusty looking spots. Thanks!

Hard to tell by the brown mold description. I pressure cooked and sterilized the needles during inoculation. Going to be upset if they are screwed up.

Take the 2nd layer of foil off or if you used lids with holes, just have the lid with holes on. Those jars need the FEA and covering those holes makes it difficult. It's recommended to cover the hole(s) with micro pore tape. I have just used lids with hole(s) in them and have yet to get spawn contam. I'm no expert but I found the 2nd cover you have on there didn't work as well for me.

Ok thanks. I used lids so I’ll just leave the lids on with the holes exposed to the air? I am surprised only one jar has showed growth so far. Hope the one in question can be salvaged.

yeah, they just need the FEA of one hole (I do multiple for noccing reasons), It's just the foil layer over it that screws it. Also I will leave my foil lids on until I put them in my "colonizing chamber" (tub I use for heat buffer) because I don't use micro pore tape. Really though its just figuring out what works for you. Not everyone has the same conditions so there's a lot of taking or leaving, just keep in mind your conditions compared to other peoples situations/advice.
